Torghast Twisting Corridors Tips

I have finished layer 8 of twisting (as 191 prot tank) and here are some tips that might help.

Note: Even if you are thinking well ya tank, again 191 layer 8 beat. Every class should be able to do layer 1 with this or next weeks gear.

  1. Class and spec are not nearly as important as you think, powers and layer buffs are.
  2. Never start a run with Mort’Regar, EVER.
  3. Try to start, just exit and come back in, with Fractured Halls/Upper Reaches. Use a Ravenous anima after layer 3 and get lots of phantasma https://www.wowhead.com/item=170540/ravenous-anima-cell#comments
  4. If run starts with the HP buff for the enemies consider restarting it. If that pops again the higher layers are utterly poisonous.
  5. You powers matter. You HAVE to take max hp buffs. You will also need to focus on where you are weak, ie dps for tank (boss), def for healer or DPS.
  6. Take boss killing related buffs over trash speed ones. Bosses are way more of a blocker than trash.
  7. If you get the maw eye type boss, you might just be $%#$ed. Seriously it seems kinda over tuned for damage.
  8. You will need some speed buffs, bosses can pop their aoes fast and they tend to be a one shot.
  9. If you are struggling killing trash by floor 13 you will not beat the last boss. They are a huge jump in power.
  10. Kill everything and realize your power focus for normal Torghast is totally different than Twisting halls.
  11. Sometimes you will simply never get the powers you need to win, it sucks but it happens.
  12. Crit and any powers around it seems to be the overall best for killing stuff.
  13. You need to take abilities that interrupt/stun/silence the mobs/bosses. You will die comically fast otherwise.
  14. If you are doing Soulforges and the magic buff exists you need to get https://www.wowhead.com/spell=305277/flamestarved-cinders# via the Ravenous Anima. You will get wrecked on higher floors otherwise.
  15. ideally you shout get two ravenous anima, one for https://www.wowhead.com/spell=305287/marrow-scooper# and one for https://www.wowhead.com/spell=305277/flamestarved-cinders# just incase
  16. Pick up phantasma bonus powers before floor 12 as a med priority. You can be phantasma stared if you are unlucky without them.
  17. When dealing with Elites try to pull one at a time, use CC, if you can’t focus on the more dangerous one. It is almost a given one of the two will wreck you and the other will not. If they both can well, stuns/interrupts and such help a lot.
  18. Chained casts from mobs are not like normal. While an interrupt can stop the cast only a stun will stop some casts once they are started.

There are more but that is all I can think of atm. Remember you need to focus on your weakness. Ie a tank will focus on healing and DPS, a healer DEF and DPS, a DPS DEF and healing. Also MAX HP, you need this, a lot of this.

Additional:

Did 2 runs of layer 8 today as a holy paladin. First ended at 12 due to no max hp items popping, ala one shot. The second at 17 with about the same HP 130K that I beat 8 with. A few thoughts from it:

  • Tank was for sure easier across the board. The difference was noticeable but not night and day (outside of the next point).
  • Healer is really slow compared to tank. I knew it would be slower but it is glacially slow.
  • Lacking of a interrupt for holy Paladin is really rough. I totally forgot they did not have one.
  • HP was really an issue. I got really unlucky with the max hp items but I still think a hp buff for torghast would not be undeserved. Healing cannot make up for some of the damage you will take.

Idk the soul forges one really doesn’t tick me at all. And every run I’ve had 200k to 400k hp. But also lol spriest

Agreed on Mort’regar and Coldheart halls should never be your floor 1 - try for fractured and upper reaches as they are the easiest.

Health is super important, but if the option is health or a vital anima power (such as Voracious Culling Blade for warriors) I’d say go for the other power, keep in mind that elites and bosses get a stacking buff the longer they are allive so if you are all health and no bite it becomes a DPS race. And some specialize (a couple in particular at least) punish you for having too low dps or too high health.

My layer 3 run yesterday was Mort’regar from floors 1-6 and 13-18.

Still did it.

Spam CC til your CDs reset.

I found that generic damage powers scale real well. Especially if you grab every stat soul each floor

Still though yuck.

I’m only up to Layer 5 done but on Layer 5 I started with Coldheart and got two versions of Upper. Took 3 hours to finish as Prot and if I didn’t have the Condemn Stunlock, possibly longer.

TC is really hell on my fingers.

Honestly, ~3 hours will be the norm for the rest I would say. Can be shorter with great buffs can be longer with bad ones of 2x health buffs ie 42% bonus health for all enemies.

I would say that is another issue, Torghast seems just a little to dependent on luck you get with powers. I would not mind seeing some fixed buffs to make sure you get to a specific power level with some randomness beyond that which would mix things up.

I am not convinced totally random powerups are the best course.a

This entire post was full of good advice, but this part in particular I wanted to quote for emphasis, because I kept hearing nightmare accounts of the mobs in there having intensely high health and damage, but I never would have thought to check if they had passive buffs for HP otherwise.

Speaking of 3 Hours, I just had a 3 hour layer 7 TC ruined by Maw of the Maw.

it really doesn’t matter much. Only thing that matters is how many rares and chest RNG blessed you with. And how many power drops from mobs you had. And if they were actual power/hp boosts or mawrat explosion powers

Floor3 is a good place to restart if you already have no meta powers and merchanot offers nothing good.

I think venari exalted update should make all runs nearly perfect, cause always have atleast 2 options to pick is a massive buff

Absolutely matters, if you rotate till you get skoldus/fractured chamber you reduce the chances of getting stacked mort’regar/upper reaches (which are deadly) or stacked soulforge/coldheart (which are annoying/potentially deadly) and completely remove the possibility of a devastating 3x run.

(Note: This is from a melee standpoint thats cleared 8/18, so casters may be more comfortable with waiting between pulls for cooldowns - making skold/fractured less appealing than something like coldheart.)

i did layer8 on havoc dh, i don’t really feel much difference. Only coldheart is annoying with constant death from above fliers.

Coldheart debuff is the worst decision to go through with if it’s your floor one.

15 stacks of that takes forever, and the last boss is such a sponge there’s a could
Chance you just won’t be able to beat the dps check.
