Torghast is Totally About Timer & Bonus Now

My first and second solo run on my Horde Pally… both back-to-back.

Imgur

  1. I went at my usual, leisurely pace. Over-pulled a pack with 2 elites and a bunch of non-elites and died once (-20)., but got near 100% completion (must’ve missed a mob/urn/rescued-soul) and got some bonuses but not even close to 160 score for 4 gems (required to unlock Layer 10 next week on both wings from what I’ve heard).

  2. I tried to focus on picking up the pace. Was sloppy and missed 1/3 of the first floor for an overall completion of only 86% (-13 relative to my first run). But going faster more than made up for the missed completion (+19), and I picked up an extra 30 bonus points (+15 Highlander, +10 Trapmaster, +5 Robber) that I didn’t make in my first run.

I’ll reiterate that this is very much about “go fast” to advance to the next layer. You’ll definitely want to research the Bonus Points on WoWhead, because there’s absolutely no in-game description and they’re worth a lot to your score. Using drums (no lust for pallys) wasn’t enough for the +10 Executioner bonus to kill the end-boss in <40 sec and I had flask, food, rune, sharpening stone and all my burst CDs… Guess I won’t get that 'til I’m higher ilvl.

I imagine a fire mage could’ve beaten the end-boss in <20 sec for a +20 bonus, so there’s that if you play that class!

EDIT: So after doing this run, I have to say it’s NOT totally about the timer or the bonuses… you can be extreme and do a speed-run or ignore the timer completely and maximize bonus objectives. It’s probably easier (and more fun) to do a blend like in my second run at the top of this post.

Yup, hard pass from me.

The devs can’t help themselves at this point. Everything’s gotta be made into a bloody gogogo esport.

Oh don’t be so dramatic. Torghast is never going to be an e-sport.

Do it at whatever speed you want and fullest research into your box of many things. After a couple of weeks of torg you get so much power from that that it becomes a meme. The only reason to push speed now is to try and get the next layer unlocked early, but as thats going to be more gear intensive it’s not really a big deal.

Looks like it’s about not dying to me

So, do enough to unlock the next layer each week until 12 is unlocked then do whatever you want because it won’t matter once you reach 12.

Anyway.

I have no hope of ever getting five stars. In fact I don’t anticipate being able to get past layer 10.

Torghast is elitist tryhard content now. Back in 9.0 you could spend as long as you wanted in there and explore all the various floors but now they’ve made it nothing but a mario speedrun incremental arpg. What a disgrace to the legacy that is blizzard.

You can get 0 on the timer and still hit 5 star, the timer matters little.

160 points to progress to the next tier, is really not that hard. It will be easier the more knowledge talents you unlock and the more gear you get.

100% completition and 6 bonuses that gives you +10 will get you there, add a few more points from the empowered bonus and time is almost irrelevant.

There should be a way to see what those bonuses are in game thought, it makes no sense to have player guessing what they are. Maybe a checklist on the side, similar to achievement tracking.
