Torghast Availability, Limiting Runs Restricts Players

Signs of Kelani did a video on Torghast, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmzI0teNieQ , Everything looks great.

However he did mention one thing that stood out to me. I do not think we need to be limiting how many runs a player can do in any given week. My reasoning is this.

If I only have time or even the care to manage a single character, I will only be allowed in to the tower a set number of times. Say I really want to test myself on going in solo, but later that week a small group of guildies or friends want to try and push as a group. I am now left out because I wanted to see how far I can personally progress. Sometimes that takes people a couple of runs to get the hang of things.

If we were to have a limit on what we can get out of the actual dungeon per week and not limited on the number of times we can run, it would not only promote player agency in choosing to play what you find the most fun, but the ability to not feel like you have to miss out on personal progression simply because you want to have fun with friends or vise versa.

Say getting to floor 10 in one run locks you out of getting loot from any floor leading up to it. Similarly to how they do raid loot now. If i cleared N’yalotha, I can still run that raid as many times as i want that week with that same character on that same difficulty. I am simply locked out of loot drops for the runs after my first.

The one thing I disliked most about visions was that i could not help my friends catch up when they wanted to work on their progression because I either had to sacrifice my own progression, or just not help at all unless I happen to have an alt that also had enough tokens to go in. It just feels bad when you are trying to play with friends but be the best you can be.

Here’s what I think. Limit the amount of rewards someone can get per day, but allow players to keep running it and get cosmetics or just practice.

Your wording is wierd to me. “Cosmetics” are the only rewards I care about.

How about no limits at all? The only limit visions have are vessels, now we’re adding a loot/run limit, why? People have already said they don’t like constantly farming currency and now they’re expected to wait on top of it. :smh:

Cool. Good for you. But gear rewards are also in Torghast, and allowing people to get geared up well in a single day is ridiculous. That’s why horrific visions are gated.

Firstly, the floor idea is bad because that once incentivizes min maxers to have to run the tower x times. Where x is the highest floor they can get to and everyone after that is one fewer until you do a one floor clear.

Secondly, Ion has spoken about this in an interview. Their reasoning is sound just not what you want. Your problem could be boiled down to communication. Just talk to your guildies ahead of time and you can know to save a run or two for them.

The idea of letting people run it inifintely just adds too high a risk of burnout and complaints. That said there should be a reasonable amount of runs allowed per week. I figure between 3-6 is good for most people’s needs on one char

Fine with gating number of entries as long as there is no timer.

Anything with timed kills is going to always favor burst DPS classes.

The replay-ability of it should be caped. I think rewards should be locked out per week or day or whatever they come up with. If they don’t, it’s not different then people spamming mythic plus. Whatever they come up with, people are always going to be unsatisfied

Agree here.

But my biggest issue is having to farm a currency to get into the tower.

I’d rather it just have a set lockout per week than having to grind out a new version of a vessel.

This starts to make wow feel more like one of those free to play games than an mmo we pay a subscription for.

Simply to keep people from overloading on gear? Same reason you can’t run the same Mythic raid every week? Same reason you are not guaranteed loot after every M+? You get what you get, and if you try again and get higher up, awesome. If not, you already got that loot, good practice. They already stated how they want some form of limit on the system so people can’t just farm it endlessly for BIS

There’s no vessel for us to get.

That’s assuming it will have BIS gear, and assuming the drop rates won’t be ridiculously low.

But you can run heroic raids over and over - they keep loot from overloading with loot lockouts per boss.

Isn’t there some kind of “key” we have to grind out?

Exactly, it wont be long before you see on the store a bunch of Torghast key deals.

Understood. We’re actually on the same page for the most part. I find myself thinking of islands and how unsatisfying the drop rates were in the initial release because devs had to err on the side of balancing around people running them 24x7.

If the gear you get from it is useless why go? What is the appeal to endgame progress players?

Heroic gear is a form of catch up to end game progression. Torghast is meant to be a form of endgame progression with catch up baked in.

Suggestion;
First run drops appropriate ilvl gear.

Further runs drop 500 gear (assuming that’ll be about LFR level) thats mostly intended for cosmetics.

The way theyve been talking about the key grinding makes it seem it is pretty easy to get them. Sounds like its more of a time investment if anything in order to get a bunch of em and it doesnt sound very challenging. The issue is this is a double sided sword. If they allow unlimited runs people will easily abuse the system and get all the BIS in the world by day 3. If they limit the runs they piss people off because they cant properly grind for gear or legendaries. I agree with Kalzhun in that they should allow unlimited runs but only allowing gear to drop if you have those keys. However I believe there should be another currency you can get outside of Torghast so that it doesnt feel like you cant progress anymore as you are on a timer. That and they need to explain if the quests within Torghast will lock you out as well if you dont have a key.

This is the issue with Visions currently. As someone who just heroic raids and does m+ there is no reason to run visions by the time you can complete a 5 mask. Running them for +3 corruption resistance and sockets when your progression level is complete is pointless.

They need to make the content rewarding while it’s still relevant. This has been a huge issue for many years with WoW.
