Used to. Experiences in recent xpacs would indicate otherwise. Without Classic and BC Classic, retail WoW would be in extremely bad shape in the off years. Like below content drought WoD years.

Hmm, where did you get that number?

haha good joke m8

I think you missed the part where it says that they made money.

All I’m getting out of this is that their operating costs drastically increased. In the Digital Entertainment section. Where sales increased. Wonder what from.

And the Avengers game was a flop too…

See: DLC for a game no one plays

You’re telling on yourself here my dude. Context matters, which anyone who follows this stuff or who has actually run a business would understand.

This isn’t so much an indication of a poor current quarter as a natural product of an incredible previous quarter.

They’re not “losing money…” They’re making less money this quarter than they made last quarter. That’s a very different thing…

I didn’t say they were. I said IF they were.

Square Enix stock (9684.T) up +9.8% in Tokyo now.

FFXIV seems to be doing pretty good for a “financial dud.” Both players and investors happy (for the time being). WoW should aspire to be as good.

For those complaining this is wow forums, this is literally the correct place to go to talk about games that isnt wow lol

This thread was originally in GD but the mod moved it here. They’ve been pretty consistent about that since interest in FFXIV on the WoW forum mushroomed last month. No complaint about that from me.

oh okay then yeah stuff like this belongs here and not in general, i’ve also been reporting posts i’ve been seeing that belong in the correct places. Glad they are doing quick work. Dont be lazy, post in the correct topics

Except that comparison is between two games, but the OP for some reason is posting information about their larger companies instead, which comprise a much wider array of products. Neither WoW nor FFXIV represent even a simple majority of their respective companies’ performance.

I think the reason for this is simple …the game is being overhyped by fanboys.

I Have being seeing less threads about people leaving WoW for FFXIV and about how great FFXIV and more about how they tried the game but it is just not WoW.

I am starting that FFXIV saw WoW was floundering and saw this as a chance to grab WoW’s crown so they began pitching and hyping their game to WoW fans. That or these people followed the game because a Streamer liked it only to find that the only reason the Streamer likes it is that the FFXIV devs do everything in their power to make Streamers happy even if it is to the detriment of other players.

It seems that FFXIV is going to end up dying to what nearly killed No Mans Sky, being crushed under its own hype. And Naturally there are still going to be FFXIV fans praising the game and saying everything is awesome because they are so desperate to keep the crown they will speed their game to oblivion to do so.

This is far from the truth. Yoshi-P have stated in recent interviews that he doesn’t like players pitting the games against each other like some competition. He admitted he’s a Blizz/WoW fanboy and had always turned to WoW to see how to make a successful MMO, saying FFXIV wouldn’t be if it wasn’t for WoW. So he has no interest in having a “crown”.

The fewer threads I think are people that finally stop spamming these forums and focus on playing their game.

Speaking from someone who enjoys FF, I do agree people are hyping it up. I think it’s just the newness or change of atmosphere talking. Although the game doesn’t really offer anything new, players are experiencing features they wanted WoW to have for the longest. Some of these players have genuine interest in the game as a result.

In spite of that, the game was already growing before the WoW exodus, so they weren’t trying to poach players. They really were blindsided by the influx; they had ran out of digital keys and the servers were completely full (both already being taken care of).

So even when ActiBlizz gets cleaned up and if the new devs puts WoW in a better place, FFXIV will still be around.

FFXIV isn’t what’s having problems here. That the OP was attempting to mislead people with their title is fairly obvious, but Square Enix losing some revenue came from releases of entirely unrelated products being somewhat lackluster/poor.

So the entire rest of your post about FFXIV is literally pointless.

Except this bit:

If you knew anything about FFXIV, you’d know this already happened with 1.0. And like with NMS, the development team stuck to their product, did what they needed to do, and made it into a success story.

But it’s fine, just let the OP mislead you by putting “FFXIV Square Enix Huge Losses” in the title.

Were you aware that Candy Crush (or King, the developers of it) and Call of Duty make up the vast majority of Activision-Blizzard’s revenue? At the moment the amount of money WoW makes is a pittance in comparison. Yet it’s still semi-successful making tons of money every year because it’s a subscription service.

You have to factor in the bigger picture before you start quoting articles and statistics out of context. Square-Enix used to dump a lot of their money into building great-looking game engines but actually lost revenue because of it.

That is the thing the he is not the one driving this hype train off a cliff the own fanbase is.

Has anyone shown the OP how to read a financial report yet?

No?

Oh well, I’ll try again another time.
