How do deal with the reaping scythe tank buster/deletion

I was running a +7 ToP yesterday. dps was cranking pretty well, we had a couple of deaths along the way to the last boss, but we were well on our way to timing with a couple of minutes left. then the run fell apart and it was primarily my fault.

I had previously run this at +5 and I had not detected a similar problem, so i admit surprise when i failed this hard. I know that it being tyrannical didn’t help, but I think my problem was tactical here.

The issue was the third reaping scythe hit that happens during a time when the portal opens and we get the adds all at the same time.

i am running alrdachi with 650 ilevel and almost 13mm health.

I clearly was not timing my defensives well and i got deleted in 3 of our 4 attempts (healer died in the third one).

given that the third cast of this seems to coincide with an involuntary movement phase via the portal, I am wondering if the following defensive planning makes sense:

first cast: darkness

or maybe just eat it since it happens at a relatively quite time and I can maybe hunt and heal my way through it and save darkness for an aoe damage part of the fight and my other defensives for later when the healer is forced to move and/or heal the party too.

second cast: fiery brand

third cast: metamorphosis

I am not sure of the timing of the cast (meaning at what time during the fight is it cast) so I don’t know if I can:

  1. fiery brand
  2. meta
  3. fiery brand

anyway, I am super frustrated as I am getting close to 2k rating but +7s seem to be a big jump from +6.

fwiw, i just watched a recorded fight (not mine) and there does not seem to be a set time for the cast. in the video’s roughly 3 minute fight, there were seven casts of reaping scythe about every 33 seconds apart on average starting about 10 seconds into the fight.

i probably need to eat the first one (or fel dev into free meta) then find a way to juggle the remaining ones. and I need that the healer keeps me topped off as much as possible so I have HP to get chunked even with a defensive up.

Just run darkglare boon and you can fel dev every other one

You should be alternating Fel Dev/spikes and brand/spikes for every reaping scythe. Due to spell queueing and intermission sometimes you can find one that comes a bit quick and you can use actual meta for.

The hit is magical AND physical so spikes is mandatory for every single one.

Darkglare boom for more feldevs, fraility spam from soul cleave, painbringer. Spikes, brand. It’s really hard to see your issue without a log

You have to pair it with spikes and even hard set meta
