What do you all think are the top brands when it comes to gaming desks? i want something with good width and decent depths.
got me a 63 inch desk. i forgot the particular model i bought but it’s something like this:
i tend to lean forward on my chair, so i got a monitor clamp and placed the monitor as low as possible so i don’t strain my neck. also a taller chair helps
Its a waste of money for me. I just use normal PC desk.
I’m interested on building PC inside a desk though.
I’ve been using Fully standing desks since about 2017 and they’ve been solid.
The standing feature doesn’t get a ton of use (though it’s nice to have it), but as a side effect of it being a standing desk, its height is adjustable which works together with an adjustable office chair to precisely dial in everything to fit me as well as possible, which is really nice.
Additionally, the legs/frame are enamel painted steel and will last for basically forever. Even if the desk’s top gets worn out you can just stop by IKEA or Home Depot and replace it with a piece of countertop and have a brand new desk again.
Currently I’m using their 72"x72" L-shape desk with a bamboo top, with the left side set up with my work personal/professional work machines (I work from home) and the right side set up with my gaming tower. With a couple of desk shelves and monitors mounted on VESA arms it’s the closest I’ve gotten to a perfect setup yet.
Almost all regular desks are built with computers in mind now so grommets for wiring are pretty standard. Gaming desks are height adjustable “desks” without drawers or storage. They’re essentially just marked up tables.
I can’t speak for anyone else, but I know my drawers and cabinets in my desk are crammed full of things. So keep in mind… the lack of storage.
The problem I ran into when looking into more “traditional” computer desks with shelves several years ago is that they were almost universally built like crap, with thin particleboard that will start sagging in no time at all and thin veneer that will flake even sooner. The exception were those built with a glass surface but I can’t bring myself to trust those with all the shattered desk photos I’ve seen online.
I’ve adjusted to not having cubbies/cabinets on my standing desk but if I wanted them back I’d probably get them by building a custom top for my standing desk frame with poly coated solid wood. I’m no carpenter so the result probably wouldn’t be the prettiest but durability > appearance in my book.
I actually have a glass topped desk. It’s a full sized glass surface standing on posts with the wood desk underneath. I don’t really do anything weird with it so it’s held up great.
I handmade mine. Two 3/4-inch (totalling 1 1/2-inch) plywood cut to 32 x 24 with an angled cutout in the front, sitting on top of a total of eight 2-inch steel furniture feet and drawers up to 26 inches tall. Sturdy, no chance of bowing at all even with a lot of weight on top of it.
I know it sounds silly, but the Ikea desk with two billy bookcases and a countertop that is pre-cut works great. You can add some kitchen cabinet legs to it and adjust the height to what works for you. Also if I feel like I want to swap anything out it’s very modular.
It’s not silly at all. The IKEA Karlby sitting on top of two Alex drawers is one of the most popular configurations for people moving away from all-in-one desk solutions.
