Top dps in Cata?

What do we think the top dps classes of Classic Cata will be?

End Game for single target boss’s
for tier 12 you’ll see fire mages with Dragonwrath topping meters reaching 40~50k dps
for tier 13 you’ll see Rogues with Fangs reaching ~60k dps
The sub rogue’s burst is insane “top dps for speed kills”

So basically most classes/specs are fine and balanced but Cata is the expansion for Rogue/Mage

Oh wow. Already got people trying to find out what the new FOMO will be because they are incapable of going top without playing a class that isn’t S+ tier. I have a few 80s leveled. Idk, take your pick.

Sub rogue was good then, boomkin druid was also good, mage in frost for PvP, the arc mage in PvE and PvP, feral druids also good, prot warrior for RBG FCs, fury warrior for RBG and arena group PvP fights and for WPvP, Arms warrior for best 1v1 and top single target macro burst, BM and Surv hunter for the level 19, 39, 49 twink brakcet, ret paladin for the 60 twink bracket, Sub rogues are total leet sauce then they get a really good rework, the shams as well are okay. Subs can follow up with assas as well, BUT sub in Cata is total leetsauce. Mage +Boom are the best casters in Casterclysm.

Thats it, take your pick. For PvP that is my list. The list. It works.

it’s not about player’s capability, it’s basically the class’s capability based on the maximum output the class can gives.

Survival hunter, fire mage with legendary, combat/sub rogue because of legendary and ret. Warriors are a bit the wild horse.

whichever blizzard decides to nerf or boost

I bet that the sweatiest minds of today could make hunter a contender. I remember being a dumb 19 yr old just barely getting into theorycrafting hitting 50k DPS as BM on whatever the patchwerk style boss in Firelands is, Baleroc iirc? Boomkin gets a lot of positive changes that put it up there too, in my guild the DPS race was usually between me and our boomkin raid leader lol

Classic is just retail for low skill players now. Been that way for awhile now.

Tried some normal DF raids the other day, just to see what was up. My eyes cannot follow all the particle effects in every fight lmao. Can’t imagine how rough it is when you actually know the fights too.

I do agree that retail is currently harder than classic though.

It’s almost impossible to have an intelligent discussion on this board it seems without people devolving into apes. I’ve heard good things about every class in Cata, the biggest thing is that the classes seem more balanced than any expansion before it (or even after?)

If we get the final patch I might imagine it’d be another scenario where some classes or specs will be “bad” early on relatively due to lack of scaling and final patch nerfs. Arms warriors, fire mages. combat rogues…these specs may come along later.

the class you’re best at playing

In Blizzard’s misconstrued version or what Crapa actually was? Because we all know they will not give the genuine experience or Crapa. They will do what they did with wrath: release final patch instead of phases, change things for people complaining about not doing well because the final patch revolves around that final tier set, and then pat themselves on the back and say how successful it was and how great they did.

Without an actual PTR we can’t say for sure, because 4.3 data from 2012 is all skewed toward whoever performed best in DS with ilvl 397/410 gear, DS trinkets, epic gems ,and leggos. No one had 4.3 data on folks in T11 raids with 359/372 gear and blue gems. Every caster spec was simmed with DTR too at that point which makes it even harder to truly know.

But anyway… Theoretically Fire, especially on any cleave/AoE fight. However, Fire also has hella RNG in Cata that can totally screw over the new redesigned Combustion. I remember our fire mage in DS really struggled on a pull to pull basis because it all came down to the stars aligning. On the positive side though, Ignite munching is gone, and that means crit will be more valuable today than it was in 2012 (since EJ was telling ppl to shed crit because of munching back then). Maybe they can undo the nerf to periodic crits not proccing Ignite now that munching is fixed?

Demo lock is a convoluted mess of buttons, pet twisting, and being forever stuck in melee range for Immo Aura and Shadowflame, but it pumps harder than it ever did in Wrath and is probably closest to Fire in terms of DPS.

Affliction is also a beast and is in its absolute best state in the game’s history. It only gets better for them. Bane of Doom and Drain Soul hit like a truck, and they got the most benefit off the crit and haste changes to DoTs. Never had more fun than with my Aff lock in Cata.

Without the two leggos, Arms warrior seems to be very strong (for once), and that’s a good thing since Cata nerfed MS and essentially removed Arms sole niche in arenas.

I think Ret and Spriest are up there too. Ret mains hated holy power because it takes just one extra braincell they don’t have. This is probably the best expansion for Spriest in terms of fun, or at least tied with MoP if you prefer Shadow Orbs being a spender instead of a mastery.

Balance was very popular but I don’t remember it being on top of anything… except the kick list since Starfall was still in an endless bugged state and pulling out of combat mobs no matter how many times they “fixed it.”

Survival Hunter was high on Recount but I don’t think it ended up being a top performer overall, but it is the best expansion for the spec.

Down the line, any caster spec with DTR are gonna be very powerful. Same with all three Rogue specs with their carrots that take no effort to obtain.

About all I can recall atm tho.

Depends what the Devs end up playing.

Why not just play the class / build you like best?

Chasing the meta is gotta be the most degenerate thing ever and why WoW as a whole is in decline.

Turned the class into a rogue… If I wanted to main a rogue I would.

The Paladin change is fine overall, but in reality it was the wrong path forward… Did Ret need a change? YES it needed to be more a buddy class a utility class, similar to Vanilla but something you WANT in raid something that’s unique even though its not top DPS or top burst.

That’s what it should have been but instead we just got turned into a pure class zug…

I play more than just Ret, My main is a Mage, but it saddens me when they homogenize classes like they did in Wrath / Cata and my god they did big time. Holy power was Combo points for kids who eat crayons.

Because “the class / build you like best” for some players is the class / build that tops the parses.

Some players like to be competitive and don’t really get into “prefered play style” so much.

Different players are different and there’s no right or wrong preference. Trying to pump harder than anyone else is an entirely legitimate way to approach the game. Just as much as picking a play style you like is.

Literally why the game is in decline now tho because Blizzard figured out that they can constantly rotate who’s top DPS and force them to endlessly grind to attempt to stay on top.

Blizzard playing arbiter of the meta is an entirely different point.

They do it in retail and they have begun doing it in classic and I think it’s a very flawed approach.

I happen to like games that let players be creative and define new unexpected metas. But modern Blizzard tend to want to tightly control “legit” metas against “degenerate” metas.

But I like soulsbourne games - they actively reward degenerate play ;p

I may be misremembering, but I recall Spriests and/or disc priests having a set bonus for the dark archangel talent which could global people in PvP when it procced.
