Not sure if I worded the title right, but I am curious what you guys think the top 3 specs in the game are that have the largest skill gap between a really good player and a top tier player? Not necessarily the HARDEST spec to play well, but the one that the top 1-2% do significantly more damage than the 5% or so under them.
Hope that makes sense… and there is a reason I am asking so thank you for your input.
It’s subjective. What some people find difficult, others will find easy.
Personally I really enjoy frost mage because it has a low floor but a high ceiling. Easy to get into but then there is a lot you can do to really optimize it.
That’s how all specs should be, I feel.
Frost DKs are pretty easy but also has some potential for maximization via extending your breath for a long time, which creates a notable gap.
Then, we have demo lock. There is a massive difference between a good and a bad one. I think it may be my pick for this question.
monks and enhancement have a lot of buttons to smash… I think you want the APM scores? Actions per minute… “Hardest” is indeed too broad of a statement.
That’s fair. Pretty much all of my characters are tanks and they’ve all just kinda blended together. Aside from Prot Warrior, I could never get into that one, it feels really weird to me.
I’m not sure AMP is the right metric for difficulty, since by that statement, I think the most difficult class in WoW history would be Arcane Mages, in the iterations where they just spammed Arcane Blast for 90% of the fight.
Currently what makes Feral a bit of an awkward spec for people, is just spamming your buttons on your keyboard will significantly lower your DPS, because of how Blood Talons and Ferocious Bite works. Right now Feral is probably in the top 5 of high skill ceilings to play.
Another one I’ve played around with, is Windwalker Single target, it’s not as punishing if you do it poorly vs Feral, but it is tricky to get perfect.
