Context: anima drought
Theres a fine line between doing nothing but our rotation versus having to deal with too many mechanics.
Blizzard needs to find that line. I thought some of BFA’s dungeons did. The bosses in a place like Freehold all had very telegraphed mechanics. It was clear what to do to avoid damage.
Yet I’m pretty sure in Ardenweald it rains anima. At least that seemed to be the censes in general chat when it first happened.
Retail >>> Classic. I was #30 holy priest in a world by gear during BWL. Class balance and itemization are horrible. Each class has 1 viable spec. Shadow priest, feral, boomkin, rep paly are bastard child. 800g mounts. Slow and boring leveling with insufficient number of quests. wPvP is sapper charge zerg fest. And so on.
For a lot of people the challenge is the fun. I don’t play dark souls for the storytelling.
Which gets back to exactly what I was talking about with the split between the player base. Some want to relax to play a video game and others want a challenge. You can’t please both with the same type of content and with the skill of top end players to adapt creating more challenging content only widens the gap.
Which is why WoW offers such a smorgasbord of activities at varying levels of hardship.
The one does not impact the other. This is why heroic and mythic came to exist as raid tiers. This is why m+ works on such an incremental scale system. So that someone who wants the greatest challenge can go run a +20 or mythic raid and it has no impact on the people who don’t want that.
Because in answer to your earlier question, yes, there are extra mechanics added to raid bosses going into mythic and occasionally heroic. Where there aren’t, they often make existing mechanics overlap. They put a great deal of design consideration into keeping the low tiers accessible without hamstringing it for the top end.
It’s a mistake to declare unilaterally that a thing “isn’t fun” as though that were a fact. It isn’t. It’s your subjective opinion.
I miss tokens and I miss how much loot BFA gave but honestly, we don’t need them. I enjoy the more meaningful slow growth now. End of expansion will probably be very different once they add more catch up mechanics.
And it has a declarative subject were in I specifically stated the beer and pretzel crowd. This is backed up by hard data as I presented earlier and is therefore an objective fact.
And I’ve shown why this is in fact not the case. While damage, mitigation and healing scale to provide more challenge mechanics do not. They are binary in nature you either succeed or fail.
left out the one with the boss in theater of pain that throws you into the arena to fight your teammate for a buff. did an +8 and died while in the arena due to grievous
Fortunately the lower tiers allow you to essentially ignore most of those mechanics because they’re frequently almost incapable of killing you.
For all that, you can’t deny that Classic has a certain charm to it that’s missing in modern WoW.
It’s outdated in today’s gaming market in a lot of ways but you have to wonder what that development team would put out in 2020.
How is that done? My ToF character is level 56 and has only just got to Renown level 2. Is there a method I’m missing? Is it just a matter of completing each of the Zone Campaigns?
No flight master whistle
Look I can manage 97% parses and could mythic raid. I don’t like to because I don’t find stress fun. Many others feel the same. However significantly more dev time has gone into providing the challenging content while ignoring those who can not do it.
Everything power related is tied to rated pvp, M+ or Raiding. And in order for these players to experience the next difficulty they require the gear that drops from it.
Exactly outside of the most beginner level were you can not be killed by the mechanics there is no room for beginners, poor players or those just looking to relax. Going up in difficulty would require higher gear then the content drops to achieve the same effect.
Again mechanics are not scaled, they hit the point of one shot and then there is nothing for them to do. Hence mechanics are not fun for this crowed. Damage and healing requirements are however scalable and when that happens you see people like me going into lower content and helping people through it because thats what I find fun.
Look there were tons of great and challenging fights in wrath without the need to create a 15+ min video describing the amount of mechanics. So what happened to change that?
Answer that and I think you’ll start to understand what I’m trying to discuss. Otherwise I don’t see much point in caring on the conversation as I seem to have difficulty in explaining this to you.
Players got more abilities.
It’s fitting you bring up wrath, because look at what a joke lvl 80 Naxx was. It would have been a joke even if the numbers hadn’t been almost identical to lvl 60 naxx. Anub’rekhan had one primary mechanic: know when your tank needs to run away because he’ll get silenced, lose threat and/or die otherwise. In vanilla that required careful coordination with a hunter for aspect of the pack and not getting dazed. In wrath? Heroic leap and done.
Surprised class balancing didn’t make the list, it’s definitly #1 for my FURY warrior.
You say this like its a bad thing. I would give a great deal to just have a patchwork style fight every now and then. But you pick a single example out of an expansion that had many great fights. Look through Ulduar a raid that was one of the best ever created. If you wanted hard mode you could access it. Otherwise you had easy by todays standard yet entertaining bosses.
The very fact that me and you continue to go back and forth shows that there is a huge split between what sections of the player base want.
I would give up your mythic raiding experience in a heartbeat for more transmogs.
Interesting. My alts all with renown 14 I think is max now? Are only seeing item levels around 155 from wqs. It was higher the previous week than it is now. Go figure.
