I feel like this is a misconception. People did those in the past to optimize. Now you have to use them just to figure out whether a new piece of gear is an upgrade.
Now you have to weigh the ups and downs of corruption, the azerite gear, is there a socket, is there bonus leech, etc …
In the past it was literally just “Would these secondaries be better?”
