Too Many Hero Talent Points

Morning!

4 months ago, I faction changed my warrior character Amphetamean-Area52 from Alliance to Horde. Upon doing so, my character’s talent points became bugged and I was showing 20 available hero talent points to spend in all trees, and therefore unable to change or edit specs because the error messaged received would say, “Please spend all available points.”

I created a ticket and was escalated to the GMs, Razerium, Thilaedil, & Iashuachy, and then I was escalated to the game developers who spent a reported hours on my account. I received a ticket response that they were still researching the problem on the account, however the talents seem to have been corrected despite the response so I closed the ticket. After a recent patch where the warrior talents were reset, the problem has come back.

Past troubleshooting on my end and as directed by the GM were as follows:

  1. Character deleted and restored
  2. WoW re-installed
  3. All interface folders deleted
  4. All addons deleted

Any help with this issue again to prevent it from happening in the future would be greatly appreciated!

I have had extremely similar issues, but I was able to recover.
(I don’t use addons…nor have I installed any)

In rare cases, when toggling a node on/off, the game seems to tally the count incorrectly, or not at all.

But this has also happens in the row-locking requirements, which happened to me recently…

Example:

  1. I take out a talent

  2. It turns the lower rows red (1 more talent is needed to unlock)

  3. (maybe I do something before the next step?..like removing another talent from the locked/red section? I don’t know)

  4. When I place the original talent back, the row-lock requirements say I still need one more talent to unlock…if I take it back out again, it now says 2 more are needed. The required count is now erroneously off by “one”.

Reverting accomplishes nothing…because even if nothing has been changed, the sections remain locked and the interface keeps telling me “all talents need to be used”

There are few, if any configurations that are feasible at this point. (if it happens in the first of the locked sections, it is generally doom). All the talent points get ignored because they’re in sections that shouldn’t be locked…and/or even more strange looking…they’re in my unused pool, but I have no more empty talents that I can access…all the empty slots are red / locked.

I don’t remember what snaps the count back to normal…I try too many things…like toggling individual talents on and off, removing whole sections, do it in a specific order, etc…I just know that at some point, I’ll see the count is right again, and sure enough, the row unlocks, and all is well.

And reverting or ending up with the same original settings/talents will again prove what I already know…there are no changes to apply, and nothing to save…but for some reasons everything is working again, lol

***Considering the nature of this…I can easily imagine a scenario where getting thrown off by more than just “ONE” causes the situation to be exponentially more difficult to reverse. Primarily if it is a specific talent or placement order that causes the miscalculation. That could be the OP’s issue.

This isn’t it at all. I have excess talent points that I can’t spend because the trees are completely full.

Sure, but there’s also a issues where dropping some talents out of order causes points to be absorbed and then later appear once you spend down to zero remaining.It’s all very likely all part of the same thing.

Put simply , the trees have no sanity checks, the “counts” can be manipulated and desynced from the interface.

I’m finding out more all the time…I will update if I find well-defined reproducibility. (and I almost certainly will).

I’m almost willing to call your problem a bugged UI that needs to be reset, which is completely different than having 20 hero talents instead of 10. This was actually a known issue that was fixed and then reintroduced in 11.1.5

Bumping this post because it’s been a week and my warrior is still unplayable. Hope to get a resolution soon!
