There’s too many difficulties with everything atm which results in a huge ilvl gap. For the love of all that is holy remove some difficulties. For dungeons… normal, heroic, mythic… That’s IT! No M+. For raids LFR/Normal and heroic/mythic merged.
The ilvl gap between various content is ridiculous, something needs to be done about it.
It’s not just that, it’s that with so many difficulties it makes the ilvl bloat out of control. If there were only a few difficulties it wouldn’t be bad since there wouldn’t be so much scaling.
I don’t care if harder difficulties have better gear, but with so many it leaves casuals with basically green gear comparitively.
More difficulties makes the game far more accessible to all levels of players. Your suggestion would cut out the truly casual players from LFR and force them into harder normal-level-raiding. It would remove heroic-level raiders and force them into easier normal raiding or harder mythic raiding. They would either be stuck doing trivial content or brick walled. Neither are fun.
M+ should be a little more condensed, I agree. 30 levels of dungeons is a bit much. It should scale more steeply, but not impossibly steep. KSM should be around a level 10, and should be around as hard as current level 15’s - > while getting to 15 should feel like an increasingly impossible climb with every additional level, since it’s just for prestige and there are no rewards attached.
There isn’t that much of an ilvl gap. There’s a lot of overlap.
LFR is last tier’s Heroic. So we literally just gained 2 steps of gear progression this tier : Heroic SoD and Mythic SoD. 226 ilvl was already attainable in Nathria.
The problem is much more the step up from BfA’s 130 to Mythic 0s 184s at the start of the expansion, why a 54 ilvl gap from Mythic Ny’alotha to Mythic 0s ? You could have shaven off 30-35 ilvls from the expansion’s bloat right there.
I think the OP has an okay idea… they just don’t know they had an okay idea, because they didn’t have the actual idea but they are onto something “kind of”
It wouldn’t be that bad if normal dungeons dropped catch up gear at this point so that people who are leveling alts at this point in the game can jump into raids or mythics sooner. But only if you have a main whose reached a certain level of progression in the game on a main character at least once.
And clearly, not at the start of the expansion as normal/heroic/M0 are virtually the only progression available that early on.
But this late in the game having to do normal / heroic / M0 just to catch up an alt is a bit tedious.
While I agree with that, because it causes a lot of power creep (look at legion), I don’t agree with removing content.
The only solution I see is to reduce the ilvl gap even further. I don’t feel like reducing it by 2 was enough (BfA was 15, SL is 13). 6 item levels between difficulties should be enough. Essentially cutting the power creep in half. But I think in order to keep some sense of getting stronger with better gear, moving the tier ilvl gap up by one should be done.
Current Tier Item Level Gap (13 ilvls between difficulties/26 between same one):
Raid 1 LFR - 13
Raid 1 Normal - 26
Raid 1 Heroic = Raid 2 LFR - 39
Raid 1 Mythic = Raid 2 Normal - 52
Raid 2 Heroic - 65
Raid 2 Mythic - 78
My Suggestion (6 ilvls between difficulties/18 between same one)
Just because there are 4 difficulties doesn’t mean you have to participate in all. Most players only do 2 out of the 4.
For a lot of players raiding does not exist beyond lfr. It solves a purpose beyond gearing & is their way of completing the story. You cannot take it away from them.
For a lot of ‘raiders’ lfr & mythic raids don’t exist. Normal is what is needed to learn the fights & heroic is progression.
There are some very good players who need a challenge beyond regular players. That’s where mythic raids come in. I don’t see any harm and I’m sure they’ll get bored in a couple of weeks if nothing else exists beyond heroic raids.
I would love to see something like this. My solutions would be:
Normal dungeons stay the same. They are mostly for leveling and introducing you to the encounters as well as extreme casual players and thus should remain.
Heroic dungeons remain in name but are converted to M0 difficulty eliminating M0. This makes them far more fulfilling and still casual friendly and solves the “make M0 available in LFD”. It also adds a fair challenge to casuals and those who dislike timers and affixes. Current heroics are a joke.
M+ remains but far less numerical. 30 variations of the same dungeon is ridiculous. Make 30 difficulty equal to a 15 and make that the new max or something. A level squish for M+ if you will.
LFR tier becomes Normal mode. This would make LFR far more relevant and rewarding while still staying casual and accessible through raid finder and keeping raids at 3 difficulty levels instead of 4.
The game has more than enough catch-up already. They’ve actually created this perverse game design where people are encouraged to quit rather than play, because they’ll be showered with rapid catch-up stuff when they come back for a couple weeks in the next tier (and then quit again).
Here’s how you fix the alt situation:
Everything that’s soulbound right now becomes account-bound.
Then people can mail their old gear to their alts as hand-me-downs. It would be a massively better situation because it actually rewards playing.
