Too late to level?

Hello everyone! I quit for sometime and getting tired of retail I thought I’d give tbc a shot! How is tbc currently? I see a lot of doom threads but I see these threads everywhere. I’ve never played TBC and have no idea on catch up. Is it too late to join up or should I just wait? Thank you all and happy new year!

It’s definitely not too late, there’s still plenty of BC left to enjoy.

And every phase is gonna add new catchup stuff, like Zul’Aman and Sunwell dailies.

People who are most frustrated with the game scream the loudest, those who enjoy the game don’t spend as much time posting or replying on forums.

There’s still a lot left in TBC and all of the previous raids like Kara, Gruuls and Mags are still being ran every week for the gear, so you’re not missing out on much!

The realms are still running and plenty of them have sizable populations to play with. Why would you think it’s “too late?” People seem to have this mindset that they need to start day 1 and be in the front or it’s “too late.” That’s ridiculous. The game is actually getting easier as it goes on thanks to gold inflation, gear inflation, and content nerfs. Early on raids struggled with karazhan. Now you can just sign up, get carried, and handed most of the loot because it’s sharded anyway. The people covered in purples that carry the runs only care about the rarest 1-2 drops that aren’t really important to you as a new character vs the other 10 items they’re giving away. I see pug gruuls/mag every day with only DST reserved, meaning you can welfare every other drop as a scrub. You just have to show up and not be stupid.

Honestly, I would say right now is a great time to come back and play. It’s a little sparse over in the classic content for leveling, but you will still find groups for dungeons and stuff. Once you hit 58, and go through the dark portal you will still find others out questing, and dungeon groups all over the place. Once you are max level, and wanna gear, It’s super easy, barely an inconvenience in fact. All you gotta do is sit in shat for 15 minutes watching LFG, and join Kara/Gruul/Mag. One or two runs of that and you will have plenty of gear to move onto higher tier stuff, and you are now current.

pretty good time to level honestly. Everyone’s mains are established so you can funnel stuff to your alts now. I had a lot of fun just buying OP items (very cheap now that twinking is super dead) for my alts and having them tear through the leveling process. On the megaservers people are forming dungeons at all levels so consider that as well as a possible location for your future character

For pvp yes, unless u are highly dedicated and have a ton of free time.

for pve not at all, it is a perfect time to join with a new phase coming up soon
I’d roll a pve server at this point too.

it is super easy to get gold while levelling too. just farm stuff that high levels use, like light feather, skinning or mining, gromsblood, deviate delights etc

disagree with this, pvp servers are basically pve servers right now but at least with a pvp server you can xfer to any other server whereas if you roll pve you’re stuck there forever until blizz opens pve—> pvp

Its never to late. It’s just a video game . You should ask yourself this instead . " Do I feel like playing this game " . Plenty of people gearing alts, you will not find it hard to catch up .

Agreed, just go to where there’s a large population of your faction. The only server that has any sort of two faction play going on is Grobbulus, and I’m hoping the Horde can survive there

It really depends what you want. Yes rolling to PVP is not a good idea, I don’t get the impression that you care about that and since you have been enjoying Retail you’ll probably be happy enough with TBCC as it is.

TBCC has moved in a direction some of don’t like and that’s what some of the doom and gloom stuff is. I get called a doomsayer simply for knowing what I want, knowing that this game is moving a direction that doesn’t support that, and not accepting the status quo. Some people name call because they can’t accept that some people want different things than they do. That doesn’t mean that I can’t see that TBCC is fine for people who want what it is today.

Yes I agree with others that it isn’t too late for what you seem to want. You already have your sub so there’s no harm in it. Just make sure to roll the majority faction on one of the mega servers at this point so there are more people to play with. Don’t expect to see tons of people at the lower levels but things should be better after going into Outlands.

Does Zul Aman have better gear drops than Hyjal or BT?

Not really. The weapons and trinkets can be good, but it’s no replacement for tier gear.

It’s more like a better Kara, some good entry level stuff. Also just a really enjoyable mini raid.

Honestly, you could level on a dead server, if you wanted to. So no, it’s not too late.

For WotLKC maybes.

Thanks everyone for your replies!

not too late, plus you’ll have time to get ready for wotlk

i’d roll on a mega server. the old world is might be a bit dead, but on the mega servers you can find plenty of people leveling in the outlands.
