Too GD complicated

The game is getting too convoluted complicated whatever, pick the word you like best, for general play.

Sure all these things are interesting but as something that can be readily digested and enjoyed and played … come on.

We had a player come back recently and we were ticking off all the things with BFA and trying to help them out and it was the most convoluted conversation, we couldn’t believe how twisty and turny it was until we had to explain it all to someone else.

Reading the new stuff, yes it looks interesting but man, you guys should pay more than lipservice to playability.

One thing that might help is stop dismantling prior expansions as you move on to the next one. Generate some better flight rules for the different expansions like when stuff goes legacy flight is on, or reduced requirement. Maybe make things happen more automatically or more visually clear through the UI.

More testing, feedback, and playability please.

Hire people to play the game that don’t play games … well parsing that feedback might be tough but how about players who have NEVER played warcraft before?

What exactly was difficult though?

If endgame I totally get you - but at the start of a game?

I played from around launch of Vanilla BWL up until just after Cata launch. I came back a few months ago.

Coming back was reasonably fun, but frustrating. I agree with the OP, it is a convoluted mess to someone who hasn’t been along for the ride. It took me a couple weeks to figure out the new systems, the difference between warfronts, expeditions, etc.—I almost quit. I just wanted to log in and occupy my brain with a little escapism and I ended up in a Rubik’s Cube puzzle.

After knowing what I do now, it’s not a big deal, but it’s still a mess IMO. I can certainly see how someone might give up. Especially with the min/maxer gogogogogogo! mentality that has taken hold. What a nuclear-powered hamster wheel the player base got itself on.

I think I was lucky then, I started mid-last year with no WoW experience.

For a very long time I literally did the plot only, I joined a guild that was basically dead so I could just explore the game on my own. Then I did my first looking for group party in August last year. :joy:

I think I may have quit if I had that pressure laid upon me to try and perfect azerite/etc from the get-go. So I think there is validity there.

I outlined this in my other thread.

It’s convoluted and complicated but not necessarily deep nor complex.

WoW right now is hard to get into, brain-dead easy to master. Before, the design paradigm was the total opposite and worked much better (WoW’s better health under that design paradigm backs up my argument here).

Unfortunately, Blizzard does not seem to be aware of this rather nefarious problem.

My brother and I had a laugh at the fact there are portals just sitting at the end of boat ramps. Instances of cities being destroyed and not being destroyed. Some of the most important stuff NOT on the LFG systems anymore.

Edit: Just remembered getting a kick out of the Pandaria portal that lets you bypass the skyfire beginning but every time you take it the guys like “oh what are you doing down here get up on the Skyfire!”. It’s just crazy all the weird stuff they have to do.

The whole thing is a complete cobbled together monstrosity and no attention has been paid to growing the user base in years.

So you really want World of Warcraft on mobile I heard?

That’s a weird leap of logic. Unless you were trying some sarcastic meta commentary about Blizzard

What works for new gamers is phone games. That’s a shot at Blizzard because they know it and possible new players.

Really? I find this hard to believe.

Low-key Pathfinder topic.

This is the only specific point you made, the rest is really vague and full of generalizations.

Going by revenues it’s true. But you know that’s getting a bit too complicated for simple meme.

So let’s get more serious, the game is too hard to understand because of it poor UI and over-systemization. The fact that the base UI hasn’t really been developped much and that much wow relies on addons for basic tracking of abilities and events is kinda annoying for new players. Atleast with the new leveling system they will have fixed that bloat. But there is much more the game needs to do do join the modern era of mmos. It was fine before to have to use wowhead website to understand simple things, it shouldn’t feel like it in a modern game.

Sounds like you’re opposed to the concept of new players.

What was convoluted about the OP?

I always forget GD is actually a “naughty” phrase so I was trying to figure out how General Discussion was complicated.

I’m still waiting for pet battles on mobile. I welcome new players, just it’s hard to introduce wow to them with the way it’s designed, and well how bad was BFA.

You may be waiting for pet battles on mobile. I expect the game to be ported to mobile and people will be doing mythic raiding on their cellphones. And there will be loads of support in the forum from all the usual suspects.

Even coming in after taking a break for a patch gave me this feeling - I decided I’d start anew on an alt, make something different of it…

…But when your character’s not there to do the content when it’s current, and with all the layered prerequisites the game now has, it can feel like ticking off a checklist to even hit the ground and start doing stuff. The fact that Nazjatar is a prerequisite to basically everything despite being, for the most part, obsolete - that bothers me a bit in particular.

Doing older content to reach the new stuff isn’t a huge deal, but a friend and I had to spend at least an hour untangling the knots and trying to figure out just which of the prerequisites we had to cover to actually get started. Funnily enough, my friend gave a good suggestion for this as well: give us a UI element to show what we need to do to unlock content!

At least its not EVE.
