I was just thinking today, as I see anther 6-month sub reward, about how I haven’t paid for a WoW sub in 7 or so years. Those who played WoD will remember the lucrative gold making that the garrison missions could produce. Many of us made tons of gold. I haven’t paid for a sub since.
7 years x $15 x 12 months
It’s insane. Most if all, Blizzard has made around $1,700 from me buying tokens instead.
Pretty wild. But no special mounts for me. 
I love tokens.
I haven’t had to pay a single dollar for anything since they came out.
It turned all the shop stuff into gold dumps.
I am betting the guy that came up with the concept of using tokens to pay a monthly sub was given a bonus check. When you consider a token cost someone $20 to purchase, a monthly subscription runs $15, meaning Blizzard makes $5 extra upon every monthly subscription purchased with a token

I wouldn’t pay RL money for the game though and might quit soon anyway.
Indeed. Blizzard has made $500 more dollars from me buying tokens the last 7 years as opposed to paying a sub.
But no special mounts for token heroes.

7 years? It’s been 7 years since the WoW token… it feels like 3 years ago…
This kind of thing is why I think there’s some dissonance from the success Blizzard reports in their financials and the perception from players that “WoW must be doing bad if they aren’t reporting subs”. The fact of the matter is, token revenue is massive and contributes to active player counts in the game. There are purists who somehow think that WoW tokens “don’t count” as revenue and it is a bit of a joke. In fact, I’d go as far as saying that token revenue is often more valuable unless subs lock themselves in for six months.
Anyways, more power to you if you can enjoy your hobby without spending a dime.
Can’t you buy this new mount through the store with tokens?
You can buy anything through the store with Battlenet balances but 6 month Subs. They allowed it only 1 time in 2019 when non flying ship mount was part of the package, they haven’t since.
Oh for Blizzard balance? I suppose, but it’d take 400,000 gold, which I could otherwise use for 2 months of subs.
I used the Battlenet balance to buy both BFA & SL Ex-pacs (I think these were the only 2 so far that you could use Your balance money for). I have not paid for the game with RL money since the tokes came out.
hows your electricity bill?
Goes down in the winter since I heat my home with natural gas.
Props to those who can do it, I’m terrible at generating gold (not that I put any effort into it) all my gold literally comes from vendoring stuff.
As long as I can buy consumables I’m good.
Even if I had a fistful of gold (I don’t lol, I think. Rn I have 20k) I’d just buy the sub anyway

Eve Online thought up the token idea years before Blizzard did. I have no idea if someone else beat Eve to it though.
i think Runescape has it. i believe albion online also launched with it as well. Maplestory alone had a very similar system that was later removed. you’d sell items for NX ( their cash shop currency ) which can then be used to buy w.e. you wanted. literally the same thing as tokens. think they removed it because it then became more of a p2w game despite i mean it already kinda is a p2w game outside of the reboot servers and prior to reboot server being added.
Now imagine how much money you could have made at a real job instead of slave laboring over WoW gold.
Notice how it’s only in shadowlands that players are crying about it.
People have complained about the WoW token since it came out lol not sure what you’re talking about.
If they did they were a small minority. I mean they still are a small minority but bad players cry about the token all the time now.
all you have to do have a credit card link to your account for 6 months and you still get the rewards for them
