Token Users

This pertains more to those who use in-game gold for tokens and not people who buy them:

If you are one who uses tokens for their monthly subscription and have not paid money for a monthly subscription in years, if Blizzard suddenly did away with tokens would you revert back to paying $14.99 a month for WoW?

Personally, as someone who has not paid $14.99 in years, I am leaning towards ‘not paying $14.99 a month again if they went back to that system.’ How about other token users?

my six month subscription , which I havent payed a cent for since the token came in, would be billed again and I would just continue playing . I am still eight months in advance through tokens and seeing as they are dropping atm will probably buy anotehr 12 months worth soon

Yes. The 6-month sub date just keeps getting pushed out with each token used, so there’d be some time to play still, and in all likelihood the train would rolling once that all dried up.

How do you all have so much gold?? I’ve been plying since wrath and i have 200k…

Granted i dropped 300k on mage tower and never felt like grinding that back.

But how do you acquire this much gold

If they removed tokens I would be done with WoW. I decided in late 2018 that WoW wasn’t worth $15 a month any more and I would only keep playing if I could keep my sub going with gold. I thought I would have to quit but I’ve managed to keep it going all this time. I would switch to non-subscription games - might finally give me a reason to try Lost Ark. I also have about 50 games in my Steam library I haven’t played yet.

Professions.

Professions take time. I want to actually play the game with what little time I have.

I have the gold, mostly saved from Legion missions, to support my sub for awhile. But I’d run out eventually. So I pay the sub fee and hold onto the gold in case there’s a mount I really really want. Or we ever get housing.

To some folks, the “gold game” IS playing the game. It can be a game within the game itself. It can be quite complicated, cut throat and can take a lot of skill to manage correctly.

Some of us current, or former, ex gold-goblins find it even more fun than just grinding the same old dungeons day after day.

No.

Sure, but the poster who asked clearly doesn’t play that way.

My point was that having gold income enough to continuously maintain your sub with it doesn’t just happen. It takes time and effort. Saying “professions” doesn’t paint the whole picture.

Depends on how I view the quality of the game at that moment.

Yes, at the beginning of an expansion there is so much to do. But once you get to the slow grind and time gate… that’s when it REALLY depends on how they do it.

If its like SL, very obviously gated because of very little content that isnt mythic, then no. Id take a break until another patch.

I would drop wow instantly.

Buy low sell high. Playing stonks with items. Gathering up stuff then turning it into stuff along with buying stuff low, crafting it into stuff, then just posting it on the ah (or trade).

The vast majority of people I play with will not play the game anymore if they can’t pay their subs with gold.

If you have leveled your professions along with your character, then yes, it can very easily just happen. Even if you just do something like blacksmithing and sometimes craft old weapons/armor from old expansions, using mats bought on the ah (which, legit, this can take me 10 minutes, if I am being super lazy and doing the bare minimum), and just post 'em on the ah, you can get 100k for some pieces. Granted, server size is going to play heavily in to this.

But can it be done? Yes. Ask me how I know.

I’m a miner/engineer. Most of my gold comes from selling current ore that I find while questing. Ore usually sells just fine, but certainly not the ~175k per month I’d need to sustain tokens.

I’m not saying it can’t be done, I’m saying people are sometimes too dismissive about the time it takes.

Yes as I used to before WoD, the token has saved be 1000’s of dollars over the years, but I have no issues of switching , though this time I will not be subbed for long periods of time

Nah, blizzard only gets more of my own money once they start putting any effort at all into anything in game. Tokens make my boredom hobby here valid, without them I’d just play ff14 (vastly superior game when I got 15 bucks to burn)

If you level an alchemist, you can start crafting to make sky golems (or, alternatively, you can just buy the living steel, instead of having an alchemist toon). Those still sell to this day, because of the herbing (and some people like the look of the thing).

All it takes is knowing what you can tap into, using the resources you have on hand.

Playing alts, gold just ends up stacking eventually without paying attention to it.

I still pay for the sub because I have better things to do than farm 150k-200k gold, gold income is passive for me and I rather sit on the gold for now. Although I have accumulated gametime until 2024 so…

Prior to the tokens introduction, I would often take breaks from the game, typically skipping a major content patch each expansion.

But since tokens came out, I’ve been continuously subbed, since I earn enough gold to easily support it, even if my playing time drops off from time to time.

If they got rid of them, I’d probably go back to the old approach and take breaks up 6-8 months each expansion, while I play other games instead.
