Overwatch, that’s a fair point. The difference is, I think, that OW was never available on Mac but WoW has a long history on Mac. Still, fair point.
U dont buy a mac to play a game … you build a pc … you just happn to put a game on a mac and be content with what u get
You can get a decent tower for 8-10k ( which is redic as apple has no real work stations now other than laptops dongled and docked out. Imacs are a waste.)
But the 5k for the monitor is the real joke…
We don’t know for sure but I’d imagine they would. I guess the final call would be from the research and development team on if it would work and whether the time/money would be worth doing.
I certainly hope so, doing so would be good as having WoW on Arm by itself is a really interesting development prospect and would open doors for future WoW platforms.
The only reason I bought a Mac Mini was to play Wow. Lots of people do that. We don’t want to “build” a PC. I have no idea why people want ridiculous frame rates. My Mac Mini has a high enough frame rate for me. And I don’t know what the frame rate is, and I don’t care. I’m not an elitist.
I agree with you that 5K for a game monitor is a joke. Nobody said that monitor was for games. Why would you think it is? It’s for video professionals.
IT is working on the other laptop. Please keep this one on a bag of ice as the heatsink doesn’t work. Also the battery gets VERY hot.
Not only would WoW on Apple Silicon be a good idea, but if they can do that, it’s instantly also runnable on iPadOS. The binaries for these two devices are 100% compatible. As far as I know it would be the first mobile device that WoW would run on. And don’t forget the COO said above that getting Blizzard games onto mobile devices was their main goal.
I use both. Apple is for my writing and graphic design and PC is for all of my gaming. It’s just a personal preference. I’ve played WoW on MacBook Pro With no issues and it was nice, but it was more for when I traveled.
My brother has a family computer and it’s a Mac, because it fit their needs best for all the kids with all of their other Apple products, and he got a discount through work.
So yeah, we’ve all go our reasons. Hehe
Why the hell are you buying a mac for gaming, let alone in general?
Probably animation studios like Pixar and Dreamworks.
The tone of your voice tells me that you really don’t care.
But I’ll give you the reason. I was a sysadmin for Windows for decades and I’m just sick and tired of administering those ugly, complicated, finicky, unreliable beasts.
Hi Mac tech support MVP here , long dormant.
I’m confident you will be able to run Wow on your new mac.
I was here when support was the ability to run wow on PPC macs was withdrawn. This was done primarily because of the difficulty in sourcing test units for Mac based QA as well as getting support from Apple for outdated hardware. If you can’t get appropriate hardware to test bugs on or get appropriate support from Apple with a bug that has to do with outdated hardware and/or software it makes it very hard to code workarounds to mitigate bugs.
In this case it won’t be the case - while Apple have a tendency to play hot potato with their old hardware/software that’s only about 1-2 years old they will always support the latest and most recent things they have come out with. Blizzard will have no trouble with sourcing test units nor getting support on bugs. In fact Apple will probably be begging them to file bug reports given how new the hardware is
I ordered the newest Mac Mini earlier today. If you need volunteers to test compiles of WoW for Apple Silicon, I can volunteer. I’m not sure if Blizzard will create native binaries for Apple Silicon or just rely on Rosetta 2 emulation. I’ll test either one.
I don’t work for Blizzard budd. However I have asked about the emulation vs native compiling thing.
Not sure when I’ll get a reply (don’t expect one today)
But if I do I’ll keep you posted.
Not being mean when I say this, but Mac is honestly such a crap choice of computer.
You spend more time begging developers for compatibility than you do actually playing games on a Mac, because it’s just not as supported as a PC.
That’s what Boot camp is for /wink
Don’t worry, you aren’t the meanest person in the world. My Mac suits my needs. My needs are Wow. I don’t need all those other games you allude to. Blizzard has been quite faithful to Mac users overall. I’m just worried that the only game I play might become incompatible with Macs soon.
Lol who buys a Mac?
Boot camp won’t work on any of the new Macs. Windows doesn’t run on Apple Silicon. There is a very very vague hint from Microsoft that Windows might run on Apple Silicon later, but then it will either need to emulate x86 instructions or developers like Blizzard will need to recompile for “Windows For Apple Silicon.”
It’s actually a lot better then it used to be. There are 966 games listed on Steam with Mac clients so of which are major franchises / AAA games. As long as the game you want to play plays on your hardware it’s all good.
Really don’t get this Mac hate. People are going to play on what they play on. Why does it matter what hardware people play on.
100 million people use Macs today. 1 billion people have iOS devices. And now those two groups become one group of 1.1 billion because going forward the binaries for MacOS and iOS are identical. Which PC company that you know has 1.1 billion users?
Are you thinking that Blizzard should ignore the mobile market and this large base of consumers?
