So, I think it would make sense to clarify whether you mean tanking a dungeon while leveling or tanking at max-level and farming bis/pre-bis.
For leveling, if you are spamming dungeons, then I’d question any reason not to prefer 2-3 warriors in a given group. They are excellent DPS, don’t take much dmg, can off-tank, pull threat away from heals.
If you are farming gear, then sure, but the classes you would prefer to have or avoid would depend on the gear they have or may want much more than the class they are, wouldn’t it?
if your lvling the smartest thing is 3-4 warriors and a Shaman
If your 60 (which i am, and so its a given) and actually need gear still from 5 mans priest-shaman-magex2, but since i dont need gear i would invite a warrior since the Righteous Orbs are reserved regardless of the group make up, the Rich Thorium is reserved regardless of the DM E make up.
Even while leveling / grinding dungeons for xp, I wouldn’t take warriors most of the time. Need to grab all that good gear to be a better tank or solo grind, etc.
Yeah, I suppose that depends on one’s personal preference. I don’t much care about loot, and tend to be quite lucky on my rolls anyway, so…
But I’ve definitely invited 2-3 warriors and had one leave from time to time for similar reasons. If you are leveling in the dungeon groups, esp. if you stick with the group for a few runs, you often get the piece(s) you’re looking for, and honestly, while leveling, it almost never matters (I can think of the Ravager being an exception, but again, I tend to be lucky, and won it my first time seeing it drop, which was my second run, I believe).
I suppose it depends on the level you’re at, and the loot priority; for example, if people are going to complain about a tank rolling on DPS gear, if that warrior is there for DPS gear (though, that seems like a silly argument).
It would be nice if people who played a class had, and kept gear for all their available roles.
Only time I’m okay with another warrior in my group is if he don’t need what I need, or if there’s something that we both kinda need but it’s not really gamechanging if I get it.
But if I need something that’s going to make a world of difference or it drops off like the last boss in an instance…yea, I’ll be pissed.
For example, I’ve been running LBRS for weeks, trying to pick up Reiver Claws, gemstones, Blackcrow, and Ribsteel Footguards. For Reiver Claws and Ribsteel Footguards, I wouldn’t have invited another warrior because 1) they’re both somewhat rare drops, 2) they’re both late in the instance, 3) Urok is a very hard fight and is skipped in almost every group, and 4) they’re both very good. Blackcrow and the first 2 gemstones I don’t mind a little competition for because I can just make a Voone farm group and max out my lockouts in the place every hour trying to get them, and they aren’t going to dramatically change my gameplay.
If I’m starting a group, and there is already a Warrior tank in the group, I will not be inviting another Warrior as DPS. Unless it’s a guild run and we all know each other. In that case, I don’t mind as much, but it’s still annoying.
The simple fact is this. DPS warriors ALWAYS rip agro from the tank. The result is that I end up healing two tanks, one of which is a lot squishier. So I either let them die on every pull, or I go OOM keeping both alive. If I join a PUG and there are two Warriors in the group, I just leave.
Maybe if DPS Warriors could control their agro better it wouldn’t be as much of a problem.
Why would you invite someone to your group if they’re going to roll against you? That makes absolutely no sense. Do your shoes have Velcro?
I always try to make groups that have limited loot competition for everyone, not just myself. It’s hard enough rolling against RNG, let alone rolling against another player in a 5-man.
Even if I am not tanking I don’t want DPS warriors in my groups. DPS Warriors attract a certain type of person who thinks they will be PVP/PVE gods. They jump around alot. They refuse to go into defensive and taunt to save the healer. They are just all around terrible players.
The issue is that DPS Warriors are top 3 DPS all the way through Naxx. It just so happens that Blizzard made Warriors the only hybrid class to compete with pure DPS in addition to being the best tanks in the game. Anyone who rolls a DPS Warrior is exactly like anyone who rolls a mage. They want to DPS, and they put up equally good (or better) numbers.
The tank shortage isn’t from Warriors refusing to tank, it’s from people in general refusing to tank. You can equally hold lower DPS classes (like Hunters) accountable for the tank shortage. Why didn’t they roll tanks? Probably because they didn’t want to tank.
That said, I understand completely why Warrior tanks don’t want to compete with DPS Warriors for gear in dungeons. Makes perfect sense. Especially because a lot of them also want to DPS. Won’t work that way in raids.
