To the people who lack faith in Blizzard in their efforts to provide an authentic experience. I want you to look at the person who is currently leading World of Warcraft. Ion Hazzikostas.
Ion may be many things to you. He may be someone you love or hate. He is the game director for World of Warcraft. Many people seem to be afraid of Ion because he may ruin Classic World of Warcraft. People are scared that he will take away the ability for them to have an authentic experience.
However besides Game Director for World of Warcraft, Ion or Gurgthock, as he is called in-game, most likely knows more about Vanilla World of Warcraft than you. Yes you, person reading this post.
Gurgthock, is the leader of the guild Elitist Jerks. If you were around in Vanilla World of Warcraft, since most of you played since family and friends alpha then you were, you knew about Elitist Jerks. They were part of some US first kills and had a knack for theory crafting.
Elitist Jerks, led by Gurgthock, was the first US Horde guild to kill Nefarian, C'thun and the first Horde guild to kill Thaddius. Yes, you read that correctly. Ion, the man you're so afraid of ruining the Vanilla experience, was part of both US horde/World horde first kills back in Vanilla.
Additionally, Gurgthock, was the one who opened the AQ gates on the Mal'Ganis server. Ion still sports his Scarab Lord title to this day, the same title he earned in 2/16/2006.
Ion was there in Vanilla. He pushed the game to its limits and was rewarded with many faction first kills. Other members of the World of Warcraft Classic team you saw at the panel today were also part of Vanilla World of Warcraft. They knew what it was like.
I'm confident in Blizzard and their efforts to restoring the game that I started playing in 2006 and still play to this day. With that said... keep providing feedback and don't ever settle for less than authentic. I provided feedback at the conclusion of the demo and listed issues that were not apart of my experience back in 2006 and you should as well!
faith in blizzard? my faith in them is that they will do what they think is most profitable. and so they have done. But i agree with leaving feedback, they will skim through what they think will help.
If he's so great, why is BFA terrible?

Im not talking about BFA. I'm talking about Vanilla. If you're trying recreate an authentic experience, might as well take a US/World first raider, who was also a scarab lord.
I feel like if they wanted a true representation they would not of set a release date. So instead of a vanilla experience we will get whatever half finished product they have by next year. :/
I don't trust blizzard, BUT his response to the sharding question eased some of my fears. So, I have a bit of hope.

My point is that he has obviously forgotten anything he learned from it.
I have total faith in blizzard to continue the track record.
I have zero faith that sharding will be removed after the first weeks, or even months.
I have zero faith that sharding will be removed after the first weeks, or even months.
I also fit many of those points you attribute to Ion/Gurgthock.
However, I started playing pservers several years ago and I quickly learned that I forgot more things about vanilla than the majority of players claim they "know".
the truth is, it was nearly 15 years ago. memories fade and when it comes to obscure balancing details and references to specific class nuances that you would have ONLY known about if you played that class specifically at a high level in vanilla... well then, good luck remembering much if any of that.
Ion is a human being and just like me, I gaurantee he has forgotten a lot about how vanilla actually was, all the little details taken for granted. Sure he has understanding of the broad strokes, but I promise you that he doesnt know everything like you seem to believe. He NEEDS the community, especially those of us who have spent the past several years on pservers and relearned all the intricacies of vanilla to give him and the team feedback, and more importantly, they need to listen to us if they want any hope of salvaging the giant steaming pile of garbage that they called a Demo.

This is such a dumb comment Jesus. “Why is this game where they are forced to change everything every couple years so bad if he is so good at keeping Vanilla authentic?”
No amount of school will help you
I don't actually use the devs as scapegoats for shareholder and Activision driven decisions.

Yep I don't want him anywhere near classic
At the end of the day, Ion answers to the shareholders first. They can bully him into any betrayal. The makers of games don't call the shots at Blizzard anymore.

ROFL people spending the past year crying for a release date, then find a new reason to complain once they get it.

Peoples concerns are less about "do they know about Vanilla" and more about, "will their current game vision impact Vanilla"
With things like "loot trading" and "sharding" being considered, we have a reason to be concerned.
How someone was 14 years back and how someone is now, two very different things. Sure he may know, down to the details how vanilla was. But it's doubtful that he alone is making all the decisions either. Such as sharding, if he alone sees it as a bad idea. But everyone else loves it, can he really do anything to stop it?
From their track record. I could see them keeping sharding in, simply cause they could say "oh well we have found people overall don't mind it".
I went from full hyped, to now just annoyed. Sure I could just wait until it's removed. But I shouldn't have to wait those weeks/months for that to happen.
Also for a demo that had so much UI from the current expansion. Though all that would be removed, since classic is coming next year. Why I thought the demo would be the first 15 levels or so. It seems like the game wouldn't be coming out for ages.

Chilton held the reins for MoP,WoD and most of legions development.
I have no major issue with Ion. A game's faults don't all lie on one person anyway.
What I do have a worry about is Blizzard constantly reassuring us how they want to make it as authentic as possible, but then turning around and having loot trading and are entertaining the idea of sharding in Classic(even if in a limited capacity).
What they say their goal is and what they're doing don't fully align with each other right now, even if we accept the demo as a work in progress.

Im not talking about BFA. I'm talking about Vanilla. If you're trying recreate an authentic experience, might as well take a US/World first raider, who was also a scarab lord.
While Kungen, who held most world first then, and also Scarab lord, would disagree and has disagreed with a lot of his choices and game vision.
If you want to use that as an example, then you need to take all things into account.
Screw Ion. He is out of touch with the community. Blizzard needs to leave Activision and Ion needs to leave Blizzard.
