Just read the an article from PCGamer (not allowed to post links yet) where they were quoted stating, “On his 50-minute commute home from his job as a software tester, Justwait…” and “He’s been saving vacation days for just this moment, ever since Method defeated the final boss of Uldir…”
Justwait is Method’s off-tank if you didn’t know.
Yes, he has a real job outside of raiding for Method. Unbelievable, right!? (50 minute commute is nothing, try my 70-something mile, 75 minute commute -/flex )
I think most people are aware that a lot of the world first people have jobs.
It’s just that they take off a week or three to do this. Every handful of months. Which is more common in Europe as they tend to have to work less overall, but still possible in America depending on the job.
I live in Omaha, NE. So I have a 7 minute “commute” to work.
If someone lived in Lincoln Nebraska, or Omaha, then worked in the other place they’d have about a 50 minute “commute.” Most people move, when that happens. This may be why so many tech jobs are coming here, with houses not being built fast enough (plus there is unlimited room here.)
That makes sense to take a vacation, I guess. I have 80 hours of vacation, at the Big Box Hardware store I work at. I’m not into raiding or stuff, but I could see the usefulness of taking vacation for such a thing.
So if their job is not “playing Wow”, why do they have sponsers and such? Are the sponsers for paying them some money or just for things like switching back and forth to Alliance if we have a 400 Ilevel item?
Method is a professional esports organization. Both sponsors and prize money from esports based tournaments is funneled into the company to keep it afloat. Most likely the company is breaking even and keeping itself going for the most part.
A common misconception among video game streamers. Many are extremely generous and giving, but also do not like to brag about that fact to their fans. Same with YouTube stars. I myself intend to this as well once my stream becomes successful.
I think the actual phrase was “They have no life” but who am I to judge i have more important things to worry about than the everyday doings of some random stranger I never met.
I will say I don’t think I would use my vacation days to play a video game, but that’s just me I just don’t have that level of commitment when it comes to video games.
Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of Method, Limit etc. type raiders actually know each other’s account credentials and so can gear each other’s toons while someone is away. These people all know each other IRL I think and so there’s a huge amount of trust there.
I wouldn’t doubt that some might do this, especially if they’re at a crunch period and need certain things to get done and a member of Method can’t play for what ever reason. Though they also have subs to fill in for players, so I don’t know.
Me and my bud worked on a joint Diablo 2 character back in the day because my parents would cut the internet off by 11pm and his folks didn’t give a crap.
Biggest thing is simply that in North America most jobs only give a few weeks of time off each year(with most entry type jobs offering none to two weeks). Europe though, they can quite literally take weeks off from work, every few months due to how different things are.
So sure, I’d imagine most of the people in Method, Limit, etc… have real jobs but you can’t really compare them given the locations.
I don’t have a problem with Method, of course I don’t even really care about the world first race but it does get old always seeing Method this, Method that. For once I’d just like a underdog to win to upset the balance.
