How many of you who are fine with ? How many of you called it “elitist” and that blizzard wants to be “inclusive, not exclusive”? They could have had the typical blizzard box cost, gave beta access to everyone who purchased it, and it would have included a month of sub time. It also would have the paramount ability to clearly show who would be playing classic.
Requiring people to sub to a game they have no intention of playing for 3 months for the chance to play the beta and have nothing to show for that $45 purchase upon release was a better way of conducting things?
Blizzard could easily sell a special edition 3-month sub pack, to become active on release day of Classic, counting toward “active game time” for the beta and name reservation requirement.

They could, but I think they’re going this route to sort of advertise Classic to their subbed playerbase. Kind of like a reward for staying loyal.

You mean a reward for being “loyal” that is not already free unfettered access to the second game for no additional cost whatsoever?

Rewarding your subscribers with a chance to participate in a stress test.

I am, and let me tell you why practically…

They didn’t have to do this. Period, and there’s very little in terms of financial gain since they’ll never get the value back on subs alone basically.
-
While i obviously wouldn’t have done it; i’ve been saying that i’d be happy to support them if they did a wow classic so i gotta put my money where my mouth is so to speak.
-
it’s a way to make sure the beta testers are truly dedicated fans who will give quality feedback over just random gamers on the web treating it as a “demo”

While i may not be happy with wow bfa in it’s current iteration; i want to show the wow classic team that i support them and show blizz that yes, there is a real audience for this and it isn’t all just nostalgia. You gotta put your money where your mouth is, and i support classic and <3 blizz for giving it back to me.

This. Retail players are their target audience.

Sounds like each month you are getting a loot box for your $14.99. Hopefully you get that legendary beta access!

Not the point. The advertisement is to get more people to play Classic. It already has a big following, as seen by this and countless other forums.
I dont care about a sub requirement because $15 is literal pocket change.

What I found interesting was the reply section to their announcement. The majority of replies were from characters lvl 120.

I won’t defend it but I won’t criticize it either. I am not surprised even though some of you are. I made a thread about it a few hours before we got the real announcement. I had a feeling that it would require a active sub.
They may also have Classic be a way for subs to keep subbing if the players are bored with retail.

I don’t like it, but I’m not 100% against the sub requirement to play in the beta.
The thing that annoys me is that they aren’t being clear at all whether a sub is required to be invited in the first place.

Don’t want to pay for Beta? Awesome, you can wait until August. There are plenty of players who have experience with Vanilla and enjoy retail who can fill the Beta.
Now stop making “cash grab” posts that are repeating the same thing as all the others, and go back to complaining about some other aspect of Classic

Oh boy another topic/comment from this guy just complaining and whining about Blizz and trolling/insulting people who disagree with him - it’s all he does.

I feel that was a huge part of the plan, for better or worse.
Just remember that youll need a sub to play it on launch so dont make a post crying when its august 27th
You have to have an active subscription to comment on those announcements. So it would make sense that the majority would be max level.
Stop this whining about needing a sub to have a chance to play in a beta test! You sound absolutely ridiculous.
Aye, true that. It shows that a lot of “retail” players have interest though. We may have a pretty full game.
