I just clicked on my portrait and selected “Leave instance group” and i was tele’d back with the quest completed.

Just ran into this issue. Tried it a second time and waited a few moments before killing the slavemaster. Then it worked correctly. So looks like killing him to fast is probably the issue.

How is this quest still bugged?

Yup, still bugged. Luckily, just leaving the instance lets you turn it it.
The bug of killing the flying attackers is also still there. I kept getting dropped all over the map and could not get back on the flying mount or get into the pens. One time I got dropped into the sea.
I found that taking off the cloak (in remix) will get you through. The bug is that if the attackers get auto killed (if you’re overpowered) or killed too quickly, the quest bugs out.
Try taking off gear until you’re not so overpowered and that might help.
