Ultima Online and both Everquest games are still officially up and running, Everquest 2 in particular got a new expansion this year.
If those old MMOs are still in working condition, then WOW has nothing to worry about.

Nope, unless wow has 12 millions subs it’s a failed attempt.
EvE Online has a fraction of that but the playerbase is devoted. Devotion is what keeps a game going…
…errr, and the game store. I wonder how many people ordered that Vulpera(?) mount?
Wrong. WoW is dying of the slow acting cancers called incomptetence and attempted esportification. However, your opinion(like mine) will be equally ignored by anyone that could make difference, so kiss on kiddo. Want some chapstick?
Semper Fi!
Is that some sort of new fetish? Is it legal?
People often use the term dying when really what is going on is a serious case of treating the players like they don’t matter.
If you did business with a company but came to realize they hate you or they only value you because of your money eventually you’re probably going to look for another company to do business with.
Nobody wants to feel like they’re being used or abused. That’s simply human nature.
There are a lot of players who feel like Blizzard looks at them as nothing more than a piggy bank to raid whenever they want more money.
There’s a difference. The companies behind those games haven’t lost their sense of passion for gaming and trying to create a game that their players love. Unlike Blizzard who keeps saying you think you want this or that but we know better then you.
It’s not unreasonable to say that any company whose business model is based on sustained interaction with their customers that cannot make decisions in a timely fashion, and effectively communicate those decisions to their customers, has an uncertain future.
