To healer or not to healer... that is my question

So, I’m a bit at odds right now… I want to play with my friends mage in 2s, but it seems like healer is the best option in this meta…
I haven’t healed competitively in years and I did a few bgs on my priest in holy tonight. Some games we slaughtered and I felt I had a huge hand in that, other games I go focused down so hard by warriors/rogues with a range thrown in just to ensure my demise… I died so quick at the start of fights that I felt I was a moot point, and those games I lost.

Do any of you healers out there get any satisfaction from playing this role? Is it worth grinding out games like this where you can’t even cast because the enemy is so on point in focusing you?
As a dps I’ve fought Resto shamans who made me look like and idiot, but as a holy priest i just don’t seem as effective.

Is priest still the best healer for a mage?

yes im sure people that play healer, get satisfaction from playing healer…thats why they play healer.

Gotta go paladin, man

i like healer, gives u a very different perspective of how trash everybody really is at this game, and then you get a good dps partner who actually kites when ur CC’d and it’s like oh baby.

TBH I got started as a support player in LoL like 10+ years ago because I got tired of listening to people argue over who had to support. That just kind of carried over to any other game I play where it’s an option, consequently as a pug player in WoW healing also helps me get into groups that I wouldn’t get invites to otherwise. So I don’t necessarily do it because I find it more fun, it’s just what I’m used to doing.

As a healer I don’t really get the same level of satisfaction as I would get from DPSing, because you don’t really immediately see your efforts brought to life in the form of game winning actions, your efforts facilitate wins, but they’re more subtle than getting off a good burst and killing an enemy. But from time to time you make some clutch plays, might even get complimented for it by players who care enough to see what you bring to the table. Overall though I would say the biggest satisfaction you get from healing is just trying your best and hopefully seeing your efforts realized in progression. Outside of that it’s mostly just stressing as you’re dealing with a galaxy of CC and watching people’s health bars fluctuate, IMO.

Edit: I guess more Paladin-specific, but my absolute favorite thing in the entire game is landing a HoJ on a Rogue and them dying. No matter how many times it happens, I enjoy it every time. lol

You make lots of friends playing healer, I have leveled every healer to max and geared so far and this is my opinion

Paladin for sure if you are just rerolling and not picking an existing character, they have the most stopping power as well as easiest to play

Shaman is good too but harder to learn, same for Disc Priest, my favorites more because of their offensive capabilities

Druid is kind of a 2v2 hero and hard to learn but got the most diversity in how you play

MW so far is only playable in 2s or specific 3s comps, they need buffs bad (though pretty sure as long as WW is super strong they wont care if MW is bad)

Hpriest is ok but no where near as good as Disc, too much reliance on needing to hard cast, only reason they are not worst is they also have Mind Games/Boon of the Ascended and with some legendaries making them a reliable healer for some classes

Well what perfect timing!!

Lucky for you, you don’t have to even choose!

Blizzard combined a healer, a dps, and a tank all in to one spec!
This spec even has three very different toolkits and talent trees to suit your personal playstyle!

One to do a little extra damage, one to do a little more healing and a third for a bit more bulk!
All three talent trees are all S tier and beyond, so you will find great success in whatever style you choose! And don’t worry about missing out by choosing one because each of the talents trees do everything the other 2 do nearly just as well!

Did I also mention yet that the spec wears plate armor as well!?

Its truly a wonderful time

Oh baby I’m loving resto druid, hard path but grinding it. Most dynamic healer.

I think the role isn’t for everybody. A lot of people just want to que up and smash. Not everyone wants to play a support role. But I think it’s fun. Often frustrating, but also rewarding. It definitely has a learning curve. But I think it’s worth it for sure. We always need more healers. And the good thing is it’s sooo easy to find groups - that’s the main reason I play one tbh esp as a solo player.

Thank you guys for some of your well thought out responses. As well as taking the time to make the longer posts.

So what is considered the best healer for a mage?
I’ve been told holy is better than Disc when it comes to fire mage, but is that the same for the rest of the healers as well?

that is thy question*

I’d say it really depends on what level of flexibility you want.

Holy priest/fire is good because they both have such insane stalling tools that fire can easily farm combust vs. other healers who can get trained down.

However, I will say that Holy paladin is just better with most others in 2v2 (warrior, DK, WW, etc). Resto sham is also better in certain cases.

I love it as well, I’m just not good at it. Takes some reps.
