So I’ve never played a healer in WoW, ever. Always wanted to but never gave it a try.
But I’ve been really feeling the temptation to give it a try. But where’s a good start place for a noob healer who has to level a new alt to 120? Priests are cool but I hear it’s probably one of the longest grinds in game…
That would be a big turn off for me especially since I started an arcane mage alt, and he’s level 45 after like 7 hours of play time. I really don’t wanna spend twice that to achieve the same thing!
Any suggestions?

depends on what content you are planning on doing
Mainly solo play questing with some dungeons thrown in. I don’t have time to raid at all really!
Hmmm then probably a Druid, paladin or monk.
To knock as many birds out with one stone, you could go monk. Fastest class lvling wise (not counting hero classes, which either way neither can heal) and it has both a dps and healing spec, assuming your interested in either.
Ive considered monk before. I know they get a good exp buff so that would help a ton!
And Druid I love but I just don’t like the fact you don’t get to see your transmogs with your tree of life form. Glyph helps a lot, but still, I love my mogs.
But yeah, Druid or monk is sort of where I was leaning to anyway
Why has no one suggested just changing specs and playing your already levelled shaman?

I just assumed they aren’t interested in resto sham. They could do that for sure, resto sham is fun imo, elemental is also a fun dps spec.
If you want to play priest I recommend using a level boost. Holy is beyond easy to pick up even jumping in at max level anyway.
Druid… always go druid. I love druid healing. The mobility and HoTs are awesome.

I love the aesthetic of the disc priest play style, but frankly I’m not good at it.
The only healer I’m comfortable with is druids. You have multiple HoTs that you can throw up and then just dps while they do the work for you. I played a little bit of Druid healing back in Cata, and recently started Druid healing again after trying Paladin and priest healing.
Druids feel like a pretty easy to learn healing class, especially if you are already used to playing a caster class. I would recommend starting with resto druids.
Bonus points, Druids are one of the triad of classes with the best class fantasy, along with Paladins and Death Knights. And are the only real class in today’s game that can fill all roles to some extent regardless of spec due to their shapeshifts and their third row talent that allows them to pick a second specialization on top of their first. This is why bear tanks that pick the restoration talent are some of the tankiest things in the game, virtually immune to damage over time.

monks do not have a xp buff anymore.
if you THINK you want to heal why not do it on your shammy first?
no real difference between heal classes outside of meta if you haven’t healed.
they play a little different but the buttons go in the same slots alot of the time(same as dps).
if you were going to lvl an alt and want to expand the game, go for something that can tank as well as heal. if you are looking for something new might as well try both.
lvling through dungeons is op as a tank or healer so i wouldn’t worry about having to solo stuff to get to max level.
I have all classes at 120, but my favorite (in order) healing classes are as follows:
Monk: because it’s so consistent and different than all the other healers. Excellent single target, but can get a little rough on aoe heals without burning through your mana.
Druid: cause it’s the fotm right now and easy to cheese.
Shaman: cause it’s very bursty and has predicable outcomes when you hit a button, plus it’s the only healer who has an effective interrupt.
Paladin: very bursty and not overly difficult, also fairly predictable in their skills regarding how to maintain people’s health bars.
Lastly …
Priest: They’ve gutted both healing specs to death. Disc is decent, but can be difficult to get used to. Holy is bursty, but also fairly inconsistent … much easier to learn than disc though.
Hope this helps. (I think I hit on all healing classes. Not logged into the game right now.)
Monks do indeed still have the xp buff, but after reaching a certain lvl (don’t know the exact lvl) it does go away. I want to say somewhere in the lv90 region it’s gone.
ahh, might be my mistake as i tried to activate it on my lvl90 monk and got a mastery buff instead.
Yeah, i just wanted to double check to make sure as that’d be a massive nerf(?) to monks in a way.
If you have to ask, then you shouldn’t heal, because your heart really needs to be all in. Healer is an important supporting role. Only certain people are willing to do it. Luckily, though, they exist, and we all receive healing from time to time.
I tried healing once. Tank backed off the ledge and died.

If you want to start healing there is a learning curve, for starters:
- read a spec guide
- setup a ui with good raid frames and mouse over macros as a bare minimum
- start by healing heroic lfg and lfr and work your way up, the healing requirements for those is extremely low
