To Each Their Own, Right?

I see people attacking Early Access like crazy, saying they want the game to crash and burn the whole 3 days. People literally laughing and mocking how these people that buy early access are paying to win - or that they won’t accomplish much anyways, so what’s the point.

Then, I see people defending Early Access, mostly by calling everyone else poor? Over and over again? Like… what is going on here. It’s a strange divide.

Let’s articulate these thoughts more clearly. Tell me if I’m right -

Early Access ‘haters’ - do you actually feel this way about the people buying it? Or do you feel anger toward Blizzard for developing a seemingly tiered level of gaming access that sets different economic status’ apart in a very forward way? I can see how some may find the bundled expac. approach inappropriate.

Early Access ‘lovers’ - do you really think that people without early access are just poor? Is it just a surface level insult because you’re offended that they’re attacking your personal choice? I personally got Early Access to play with a friend IRL, but am kinda appalled by the insults I’m seeing.

My take: if you got early access, I hope you have fun. I hope it is worth the money and that you enjoy your new expansion excitement. It’s sad when you don’t feel that excitement, so enjoy it!

If you didn’t get early access and wanted it, I’m sorry that it isn’t achievable for you at this time. I wish everyone’s schedules and pocketbooks allowed them to have this chance with all of their hobbies/games. I don’t know what to say other than I hope you still have a wonderful time on launch day for TWW.

If you didn’t get early access and don’t want it, see you on launch day! Three days of leveling and farming isn’t going to make/break the expansion. You’ll be good to go, I promise.

I’m afraid this will crash and burn. If I offend you - that is not my intent. I am just trying to state what I’ve seen/my blanketed opinion and am genuinely just curious about this. If this is how divided the forums can be about 3 days of game access… I kinda almost don’t want Blizzard to keep doing it. Idk. It seems divisive. I’m not sure.

EDIT: Thank you everyone for engaging in a civil discussion regarding EA! I enjoy hearing my fellow WoW players’ opinions. I also love that we can agree to disagree and listen to each other’s perspectives. We don’t all have to think the same, but it definitely helps when we listen to one another and chat about these topics. Again, thank you all.

What do I care if people want to blow money to beta test?

A lot of it sounds a bit bitter to me.

I sure hope 3 days before launch day that it isn’t still considered Beta level quality.

But, I mean, that’s kinda my thoughts too. Why are some people so mad about it?

I’m not gonna tell other people how to spend their money but I also don’t like this practice and want it to not be financially viable for Blizzard to continue doing.

Cause I know it wont stop any other way.

Yeah, seeing how the community has responded made me feel like I was contributing to this divide. I considered trying to downgrade and just forget the 3 days because it’s just really riling people up in a way I didn’t anticipate.

I mainly got the upgraded edition for the mount tbh… contributing to the access divide has me feeling… guilty.

There’s only two types of WoW servers.

Alpha (test) and Beta (live).

There I go, typing without thinking. Lol thank you for clarifying. But honestly STILL. With all the bugs… hope it’s better than current live servers.

Not much a fan of paying more to get a game sooner, namely when it affects others to some level. I also prefer everyone gathering around counting down and jumping into content together, feels it diminishes the community more for the sake of money.

That said I can’t hate the gamers who are playing the game. Don’t think anyone should, need to reaim their frustrations and not take troll bait.

Ohhh yea that is a sweet aspect of the game that makes it feel like a huge celebration together.

I think the entire topic is much ado about nothing, tbh.

I have early access and I’m among none of this. I don’t care.

I got no problem with people for it, or against it. I’m just gonna play what I paid for.

Don’t really care.

People who pay extra for early access alone are suckers, but that’s their option. Mildly scummy of Blizz, but it also spreads out the launch day bottlenecks into 2 separate launches.

If anything crashes and burns it’ll be the ‘real’ launch when everything is at maximum load. Hopefully the extra few days will be enough time to adjust server capacity in response.

I’ve always bought the epic edition, because I want the pet, mount and transmog rewards. I was surprised at the early access benefit, but it played no part in my choice.

I think there are a great number of people in this same boat.

Expansions typically last around two years. The early access is equivalent to row 1 versus row 10 in an airplane. We’re all gonna be waiting on our bags.

I bought the Epic edition just because I could and early access wasn’t the deciding factor in choosing the Epic edition.

I might be away on vacation during the early access anyway, and plan on playing at my own pace, as I do on every expansion release.

I wouldn’t worry too much about what the community bangs on about here. If you don’t mind the practice, then go ahead and stick with your version.

Though I do find the “lol they’re gonna beta test for us” argument silly.

Blizzard wont fix those issues in 3 days. If the early access people are beta testing, everybody who buys the expansion is beta testing.

Think that is how most feel, I’m gathering. Based on current responses so far. Kinda waiting to see if someone comes in with a strong opinion. I’m just… curious.

This isn’t said very often, outside of some poor jokes. Its usually people trying to explain to the haters that everything is time gated and the early access will have very little impact on progression.

Some people just want to argue, fight, and insult. But the vast majority know it doesn’t matter.

Are not players already playing on the PTR? Theyʻve had acccess to the TWW gameplay since how long ago?

I really donʻt care much. While i probably could afford the early access there is nothing making me want to spend the money for it, just not worth it for me. Let those who get the 3 days have thier fun, weʻll all be there soon enough.

It’s becoming really common, heck I have a double early access weekend coming up! Double! This is in the business model now. This isn’t where it stops, this is where it began. it’ll evolve.
