Tired of space ships, time travel, lasar beams, and cosmic energy in the story

Dragonflight looks promising, so please enough of this sci-fi BS in our fantasy mmo…

Just bring WoW back to good old fashion swords and magic vs dragons that we fell in love with the first time.

Big talk from a guy wearing a very scientific helm on his head (in WoW terms) while hurling Fel magic from another world/dimension.

Goblins and Gnomes piloting gyrocopters and subs and using high powered explosives in WC2 say hi.
The spaceships were a bit much, but the rest was pretty much in line with what we’ve been seeing all along.

Kinda hard to go back to normal adventuring ya know?

Like yeah we stopped cosmic threats, but you think some run-of-the-mill bandit thinks they’re the one to stop us? The god-killing, minion-stabbing, dragon-punching semi-deity of a hero?

Wasn’t all of this in TBC…seems like it’s been part of WoW for…well forever

Yeah, lets go back and do a history rewrite and take the Exodar out of WoW. No more spaceship-travelling space goats!

You might be disappointed, there are rumors that the DF storyline might involve the Infinite Dragonflight, plus there is already the Bronze Dragonflight, so time travel shenanigans are prettymuch a given.

There’s Steam Boats too as well in WC2.

So you’re saying you hated TBC?

Yup.

I kept hoping WotLK classic would be a big plot to retcon the whole story after we kill arthas and go in a new direction that STAYS FANTASY.

But where retail is going is boring the crap out of me.

They were part of WoW since TBC.

Sci-fi elements have been part of Warcraft since day 1. The premise of the first game is literally aliens invading from another planet.

Yeah of course, but I was referring to the franchise as a whole.
Spaceships kind of undermined the whole Legion needing a portal thing when they rolled them out in TBC but at this point it’s been so long even they are deeply entrenched into the series.

WoW has never been a low fantasy game. Right from the jump we had steampunk tech in zones as early as the Barrens in Vanilla.

These topics popping up make me think some streamer must be talking about this who doesn’t really know the entire series.
How could you play WoW or Warcraft and not realize that it’s always been more than swords and sorcery?

I think it’s partly because they need someone from the other side to open a massive magical-filled portal to get things done. This was always a plot point through the series. Sargeras followed the remeaining Eredar (= Draenei) through the galaxy on a trail and he couldn’t just open portals as well.

The spaceship was only needed for traveling through space to Argus, so it is still somewhat consistent.

Don’t forget Subject Nine, the artificially enhanced super-raptor who built a spaceship to launch herself and her offspring to go live on another planet.

…you do know Orcs come from another planet, which is the entire basis of the franchise, right?

lol what?
WoW has always had Sci-Fi tropes. In fact that’s what pulled me to the series to begin with.

Generic Swords and Dragons fantasy gets boring super fast.

This game has had Sci-Fi Twinges since WC3 in 2002.

I laughed. You can’t be serious, I hope you are trolling.
In WotLK, we go into a Titan Complex so impossibly advanced, where we fight Tanks, Lasers, Mechs, ETC.
The final boss of that Raid is a Supercomputer AI that is following its programming to Destroy Azeroth.
WotLK is some of the MOST sci-if we got.

If WoW was ever just a “Fantasy MMO” I wouldn’t have stuck around for all these years.

And let’s not forget long before those aliens invaded Azeroth through a magic portal, some other aliens used a spaceship to flee their homeworld.

This topic has to be a troll, WoW has always had just as many sci-fi elements as fantasy.
