Tired of being focused in every pvp fight

I have been a mage for most of my WoW life, but the state of pvp right now is so out of whack for mages, I don’t know what to do.

I’m primarily a frost mage, dabbled with fire, hate arcane, but this is how it goes against other dps classes:

  1. Warlock - better shields more damage - I die
  2. Warrior - infinite charges and stuns - I mostly die
  3. Moonkin - self heals, more damage, more insta-cast - I die
  4. Shadowpriest - self heals, more shields - I die
  5. Huntard (any spec) - I die
  6. DK (any spec) - I die
  7. Paladin - self heals, invulnerability - I die
  8. Evoker - self heals, some stuns - I can win these some times.

I remember trouncing most of these classes but over time it gets harder and harder to keep playing my mage, and the last few days have just nothing but a gank fest - with everyone targeting me first. And I get it, I’m easiest to kill - so how are the rest of the mage pvp people getting by, or did we just give up that Blizzard can fix us?

I’m not here to be an a**, but it really sounds like a you issue. I win most of these fights. The only ones that give me a true challenge are Warlocks, MM Hunters, and Shadow, which can be tricky if the player is very good. If you’re talking about 1-on-1 combat, maybe your spec isn’t optimal?

If you play your cards right, a Warrior should have a very hard time winning. You can kite them more than they can jump you, and you have a knockback, roots, multiple blinks, Alter Time to negate their whole burst, and a block that heals for 50%.

Moonkin is more about using your damage mitigation and interrupt/Dragon’s Breath properly. It can be tricky, but if you disrupt them at the right time, it will break their damage flow, and you can take them down pretty quickly.

To win against a BM Hunter, try to root and freeze their pets. If the pets can’t touch you, they do no damage.

Survival Hunters are similar to Warriors, except you need to mitigate the damage better because they can hit you from a distance if you kite them.

For DKs, you have to survive their burst and tons of pets, then you can just kite them. Blood is really annoying, and Frost should not be an issue.

For Paladins, you need to use your blinks properly and steal their Hand of Freedom before you CC them.

I usually have a really easy time against Evokers because of their range limitation. You can spam slow on them and just cast from 40 yards.

If you’re not already doing so, take advantage of using Polymorph (sheep) because it’s an excellent way to wait out some defensives or just gain the initiative for your next move.

I know its a me issue - that’s not really up for debate. Most of my fights I try to limit my exposure to ensure I have a chance to survive - assisting or targeting single players. My problem is that I just can’t dish out enough damage to win, or worse, not enough defensives to out last what’s coming at me. Everyone I talk to says I should be using Glacial Spike - well, that’s the one spell I hate and every one has a counter. Even casting it while moving is no guarantee I get it off so I gave up on it.

This is my current build:

If you are winning these fights, then please tell me how you are doing it, step by step, because I keep trying and feels like a brick wall. Appreciate the commentary but I need more specifics.

I should clarify what I’m interested in, beyond gear and build ideas, is what are you thinking/casting when one of these dps classes target you. For instance, I tend to stand my ground - but usually I try to hang around others and save my roots for emergencies. Because I’m not shattering more often I know has an effect on my damage. After that I go thru my rotation and annoys me that my damage while good is getting healed thru by shields/regens/self-heals. Am I just hitting a gear wall? Or are my talents that bad?
