Tired of being called Champion... Here is a solution suggestion

So here’s a nitpicky post for you all to enjoy if you enjoy that spice in your Thursday meatballs

I just hate being called champion.

I’m so tired of it. I am not a champion. I literally just started adventuring with this rodent character and Im just here in BFA because it’s a decent leveling experience.

Call me hero with your voice actors, and then put the name of my class on the text. I’m cool with that. It’s better than being called champion all the time.

I am not special I am just a RAT IN A SEA OF RATS. We do not enjoy the main character vibes here no we do not

What do you guys think?

I don’t like being called an expert. I can’t stand being called an SME even more.

I’m so glad somebody finally made this thread.

you know that a lot of time they call you champion (or even hero!) in voice, in text they already replace it with your character name, right?

So this wouldn’t really change much

I don’t feel any real difference between “hero” and “champion”.

They do throw in an occasional “our/my friend” too.

so uh, I was pretty sure that Champion was MY nickname. Do you mean they’re calling everyone else Champion as well??

I never really stopped to think about being called something else other than “Champion”. I guess using the character’s race would feel a bit more personal?

“We’ve got to heal the wounds, Night elf!”

oh, brother… Really? I need to be the person who breaks your heart? yea… not today…

No… No… no… I’m 90 percent positive that it’s just you they call champion. NPC’s call me “hey scrub” so I know I don’t get called Champion.

okay, so I love you. In a completely platonic and appropriate fashion, of course.

I don’t blame you. I am a loveable sort. My Lovability level is like a 458.

We’re gonna need an addon for lovability level

THE way to fix this is with AI. Have all the important voice actors come in to train AI with different inflections and voice patterns. Have pronunciation prompts for all characters so their name is sounded out properly. Then, anytime your name is stated in-game, it could have your actual name in the script. It’s the best use of AI that no one has even explored.

Yep.

I’ve found the key to happiness is low expectations.

At work the minute some jack-hole starts calling me “boss” I know I’m being set up.

“FU I work for a living” is my usual response.

I don’t like titles.

Most people let a job title define their identity, self-esteem, status, and more. That’s why many of us get attached to that line underneath our name: we want our fair share of recognition.

However, titles tend to create divisions rather than foster collaboration. Titles are just the illusion of power that protects our comfort zones and hides our blindspots. It leads to power corrupting - absolutely.

In real life, titles are pure BS - projecting that into a video game - especially when the title is part of the storyline dialogue (not even remotely earned) - is nonsense.

It just feels creepy when some NPC calls me “Champion”.

Although I don’t mind champion, I’m fine when called by the class. Hey yo monk…or over here hunter…etc.

A hero and a champion are the same thing.

You are special. Deal with it.

I think we’ve killed too many gods for you nerds to still be going on about how we’re just ‘simple adventurers’

I want an expansion where, instead of ‘champion’, everyone calls me “bro” instead.
