Hey guys, I recently started playing a bit on my warlock, and I think it’ll be my dps main in midnight (I play healers traditionally).
I play destruction, and was just curious if there’s any tips you guys have to just increase my dps.
I use cataclysm to try and keep my immolates up, and just kinda wondering how I should be using conflag…do I just use it whenever it’s up? Or use it before chaos bolts? What should I be doing when building shards? Just focus on spamming incinerate?

It’s pretty much just a few abilities with a couple of procs peppered in.
Keep immolate up (can do this with soulfire when it procs)
Cast conflagrate before choasbolt
spam incinerate other than that.
for aoe pop cataclysm at the start then just spam RoF if there’s a decent sized pack. If it’s only two or three just use Choas Bolt with one tagged with havok
It’ll come to you pretty fast as it’s a fairly simple spec.
It heavily depends on what you are playing. In raids you would be using a few different abilities compared to mythic+. Some helpful things to get right now are weak auras to help you track diabolic ritual and ritual of ruin.
Your important ability for diabolist is diabolic ritual. You want to use chaos bolt and play around it to make sure you are getting a chaos bolt off just after your ritual timer expires and it allows you to cast overlord/matriarch or pit lord. If you do that, then the timer for diabolic ritual continues to tick for a whole other ritual cast without delay.
I’d also suggest getting mayhem with havoc and casting chaos bolts when a cleave enemy gets it above them so you can double cast bolts. It’s 8 enemies and below = chaos bolt and any higher its rain of fire. Your chaos bolt damage procs your tier set for eyes that explode for aoe damage which is why I say 8 or under chaos bolt only.
You should join the warlock Discord and check the pins for faqs if you are serious about working on your damage output. It also has information for demonology and affliction if you ever want to switch to those.
All the information you need will be there and you can talk with active players who play warlock.
Don’t use much disc but I think I might have to start. I heard mixed things about some class discords (especially the Druid one), so I’ve stayed clear.
They will meme on you or post stupid emojis sometimes, but if you ask a question outside of what’s already covered by the pins and faq there are a lot of very helpful people there. Skellies is my favorite user there.
Use ground targeted version of rain of fire, when the prepull 10 count starts, cast rof on the ground to start ritual, at 3s cast soulfire, then infernal drop into chaos bolt which will proc the ritual and start the fight with a demon out.
Without doing that your opener will be botched for diabolist since the quicker chaos bolt loss and one demon spawn, some people opt for rof 30s before pull so they can cycle through and start with the maiden spawn, but optimizing like that you may as well optimize for pit lord timing aoe cleave when you need it, so I’d just go for the singular 10s prepull rof to get the fel guard. Trying to game optimal spawns is mediocre at best, losing that first spawn is big, especially if you’re opening with lust.
There’s really not much content aside from really large pulls in m+ where your rof is more optimal than other classes aoe. A lot of classes have more passive cleave, so if you’re sacrificing chaos bolt on main target + havoc just so you can cleave 5 targets that are going to be passively cleaved by people doing their regular rotation, you’re just padding your own damage meter while cutting your groups priority damage. If 5 adds die 2 seconds faster, but they aren’t a threat for an additional 10+ seconds, then the groups padding, specifically the destro who could instead have just been putting chaos bolts into the higher hp targets. (like soulbinder, forgeweaver and prince platforms)
dunno if you peaked at my talents above….but i don’t use soulfire…guessing i should re consider right? I was using the portal tear capstone because i thought it looked cool…
its big for havoc windows since you get 2 shards, but portals add a bit of freedom in using them during movement so you don’t miss globals.
On the other side of things like m+ where trash goes past a full duration wither, for hellcaller its convenient to play channel demonfire for the refresh so you only have to cata - > demonfire → cata instead of individual withers.
With soulfire you should get decimation procs frequently enough to maintain without hardcasting immolate. (Burn to ashes is a 15% damage amp on a spell that does <10% of your total). So the drop would be portals and burn to pickup soulfire & decimation.
The playstyle is going to be nothing a like in midnight though, since all soulfires are going to be hardcast without decimation, and portals are going to be a autocast proc instead of a global during movement. So if the intention is to learn for midnight, you aren’t “learning bad habits” by picking one over the other now.
