Tips To Better Enjoy Classic?

To preface, i’m not looking for ‘lol go back to retail’ or ‘just quit’ here. I’m looking for legit possible ways to make this game more…tolerable for me to play.

I promised my gf that we would play classic together, and up until I ACTUALLY played, I was pumped. I’d not played WoW until end of MoP, so I’m sure you can imagine the shock that came with my first steps into this classic game. The first day was tolerable, we played at night after dailies on retail, the second day was the same, but today we switched it up; We played Classic first and for longer.

I got super frustrated by the time we hit the 6th hour mark (3 of those spent killing plainstriders for beaks), and all I wanted to do was go back to retail to do our dailies. Unfortunately this did upset my gf, who now believes i dont wanna play classic with her.

I DO. I want to get to max level and I want to eventually raid. Maybe.

But I’m so frustrated with the grind (So many reps in retail left alone because of the grind) I need and WANT to find something to enjoy.

Is there a better class to pick (I picked rogue)? Are there some professions more exciting/worth it than others (I picked herb/skin)? Does the grind get better at some point?

I want to enjoy Classic. I Really do. But I don’t know where to look to find enjoyment other than seeing people running round in the world alongside me on our humble adventures.

Leave General and World chat. Only join briefly to form groups.

The conversations are meaningless and immature. People cry about queues but do nothing except screw around in chat once they log in. It’s disgusting.

I’m going solely off the thread title.

I’d say pick something like Hunter or Mage/Lock as they’re way faster and can grind more easily. Download a couple of addons to help you in your journey, check guides online etc.

That being said, not everyone will enjoy Classic so give it your best try and try to have fun with your SO and forget about Retail for a while, I think it’ll be worth it.

Forget endgame. It’s a long way off. You’re levelling for a good long while so get used to it.

I’m flabbergasted, tbh, that you would rather to repetitive dailies in retail than actual narrative quests in classic, but whatever.

Keep this in mind: there aren’t enough quests that you will ding 60 just doing 2/3 of them and skipping through the world. You need to kill mobs for XP, so if the drop rate is low and the quest is taking a while just remember that you’d be grinding mobs soon anyway.

There really is no rush. Take your time. Level cooking and fishing. Do a herb run and make some alc pots. Collect cloth and sell bags to people.

Gogogo ding ding max level raid nao is retail.

I’m having no issues with the chat channels surprisingly! I did have to leave them on day 1 for a bit because people were being very racist and derogatory, but since then it’s just been LFG calls and chuck norris jokes (Truly chat is back in 2004).

I believe my tipping point with my frustration came to a head when, while me and my gf were clearing mobs around a treasure chest, someone kinda. Came up and took it from under our noses. That’s really the only super negative player-based interaction that has happened so far.

Does the grind get better: No.

Is there a better class: Subjective. Rogue is solid DPS and will get a raid spot. Mages and DPS warriors are good too. Warrior tanks and Priest healers are also a good choice.

Profession choice: Herbs is always a solid choice. Skinning is finnicky. Mining might be better for gold making in the long run. Alchemy would be good with Herbs as long as you level it and collect the high level potions.

Just enjoy the ride and don’t try to rush through it. It’s a grind experience.

In classic, leveling was the game. When you hit 60 you eventually figured out what raiding was, but exploring is what made it special.

Edit: Rogue has always been kinda boring for me. Maybe try a hunter or warlock, the pets really help out a lot.

if you want an empty world jsut play retail.id rather have 1000 people running around doign things.

it makes the game feel more alive then dead like retail.

if you want instant gratification play retail.

If you prefer retail, no offence, find another GF she is too good for you.

The beauty is once you get those plainstrider beaks you never have to do that quest again. The fact that you feel the need to do dailies every single day on retail seems much more daunting and grindy to me.

That is actually excellent advice, I think! I’ll try to put retail out of my mind for a while

Again, excellent advice, thank you.

Would it be worth my time to level a Priest alt to attempt healing?

I definitely think my mindset of ‘OMG ENDGAME GOTTA GO’ is what’s keeping me from just. Relaxing. Thank you for your words.

Ah, I’m sorry, I think you misunderstood that part of my post, as I meant that I am very much enjoying seeing people around.

That is very true. And to be completely honest, I hate doing dailies normally, the ones I’m doing are for mounts (Argent Tournament, Nazjatar for the crab, Molten front…) Since i’m 10 away from 400…

“narrative quests” in classic?

Can you explain what you mean by this? Basically all the quests I’ve seen are pretty mediocrely written and are thin excuses to go to places and kill things.

That’s up to you. Just an FYI, Dwarf Priest is considered the best choice for Fear Ward

um…if I remember night elf starr fall is by FAR and away the best ratial for alliance priests.

That is incorrect, but you do you.

are u kidding me do you remember how much star fall crits for!?

If you are in the Barrens, that may not be your best intro to Classic. I suggest you go to Silverpine forest and try there. There are good quests and not as many people. Maybe level a lock? They are fun. I love the grind, but it isn’t for everyone.
