Tips for paladin tanking?

up until recently I have been able to tank and hold threat just fine using consecration and holy shield and using seal of wisdom and judging it to keep mana up and with judging crusader and using soR for single and boss pulls. But I just tried tanking DM east and I could not hold threat for the life of me even on the demons with exorcism…any tips?

salv dps, make sure righteous fury is up. stack as much spell damage as possible and use SoR. If you can’t hold threat more spell damage gear will help.

Make sure it wasn’t a Warlock spamming Searing Pains or a wb’ed Warrior stacking Sunders. Those classes have the power to top threat charts if they want to…

Spec holy and heal a warrior or druid.

your level isnt helping you there, if your forum avatar is correct.

What specific mobs are you having trouble holding?

Anyway. You can’t judge wisdom with how dps play these days. You need to judge righteousness every cd and put salv on the dps and they still have to let you hold it.

On long fights you can judge crusader to increase your overall threat but you’ll be losing that first judgements worth of threat so it needs to be a long fight to be worth it. And the dps has to go easy for a bit to let you catch back up for missing your first Judgement.

Finally in dungeons, it’s often not worth trying to hold the initial kill target anyway. Its not going to kill anyone if let run loose usually. Just let the group take it while you get all the other mobs. Once they are done with that first one you should have enough of a lead on the rest that you’re fine.

Have you tried healing? Paladin tanking doesn’t really work once you start nearing level cap because you can’t match the threat output of 60 DPS.

You need to be very methodical about your approach to tanking. Mark a skull, hit that target with hoj or judge and then let the dps handle it while you build threat on other mobs from there. Don’t use holy shield, it’s a waste of Mana, just max rank consecrate. Then build just enough threat and use SoW on the last mob if needed. On bosses, make the dps wait until you build threat if you can’t beat their output. And always judge righteousness nothing else

Tip 1… reroll warrior.

why? At my level I can speed clear Sunken temple in 35 mins doing 2 groups at a time,

I think it is because they kept going ham on the mobs before they even got to me and 80% of my threat is reflection

Just did scholo and a paladin tank was holding threat over a 700dps mage just fine.

700 AoE DPS. Not single target. Paladins actually do pretty well with keeping up on aoe threat if they have enough SP.

700 single target. I have no idea what the pally was doing but he had a ton of +SP on his gear.

Oh and there was a ret with Sanctity aura, so that probly helped.
