I just failed my first Horrific Vision and I am looking for tips to help complete them. I swapped over to Shadow Priest for them and even have some gear for it. But I’m a healer at heart. I just can’t kill fast enough to get the second zone done. Thrall last week wasn’t a problem but raising my cloak higher than level 5 requires doing a second area.
I did the Dwarven Bomb area today and only got 4 out of 8 bombs completed before I ran out of Sanity. I still needed 4 more bombs then a boss so I was way too slow. I just couldn’t handle the packs fast. I Vampiric Touch and Shadow Word Pain each of them then Void Erruption. But it still takes so long compared to my Demon Hunter who is about 10 ilevels lower.
I have a few tips, I hope you find them helpful.
-
Run Misery over Twist of Fate, the QoL increase is tremendous and it saves you oodles of GCD’s over prolonged multi-target combat scenarios.
-
Use the focusing iris whatsitwhosit essence in your major slot, rank 2 all but guarantees the obliteration of basically every other pack of enemies you fight inside the vision.
-
Work at pulling more enemies at a time, you should be fighting 4-6 minimum, save for the stronger enemies such as the ones guarding the doorway to the cathedral unless you’re really confident. Obviously, don’t pull more than you’re comfortable with, if the aim is to just get one other room done you can pull at a lessened pace and still make it in time.
-
Avoid enemy abilities best you can. Evading the unending deluge of purple swirlies seems tedious but it really saves on your sanity drain, there’s just no telling what enemy ability is going to decimate your sanity bar.
-
Hold off on using your sanity regeneration active until it is almost or absolutely necessary. And when you do use it you should always start the next pull immediately afterwards. It stays down for awhile and basically guarantees your sanity will stay topped for the next however many seconds. Oh, and remember, you can’t use it in combat, so factor to that into your equations.
-
Bring consumables - drums of heroism, war-scrolls of intellect or the real thing if you have a mage friend. Flasks, runes, potions, healthstones.
-
Most obviously, don’t forget to spend your fragments to make it easier for you inside the visions.
Good luck.

Don’t compare yourself to Demon Hunters because they’re ridiculously overpowered for any burst AOE content like this. And unfortunately burst AOE is a shadow priest weakness.
I’ll also say that the Stormwind vision seemed significantly more challenging than the Orgrimmar one (and the fire jumping corruption is really annoying).

Thanks Toil. Some fantastic advice there and I’ll swap things around. My Shadow ilevel is actually higher than my Holy but with worse gear if that makes sense.
Wendilly, I agree my DH is really overpowered. Just doesn’t seem fair that for something every class has to do not all classes are created equal. I’d be happy to do this as a healer and laugh when my DH tries to heal.
Sorry i’m late to the party but I found this much easier to do as disc. I was about 430 when I started. It gets much easier once you get the regenerating orbs and the self rez with full health/insanity. I was able to complete everything up until Rank 7 so far and i’ve failed maybe about 4-5 times just feeling things out.
If you don’t want to switch to disc then that’s totally cool! The other suggestion I have is
- Draenic Invisibilty potions
- When I get launched into the air from the fire debuff, make sure the mobs all run through it and they will die much quicker!
Good luck out there. It’s possible for healers to do solo!

Invisibility Potions and the Ghastly Ghoulash food really helped me.
I still don’t feel comfortable pulling big packs and don’t really understand how Shadow Priests are supposed to AOE. No matter what I do, besides the Azerite meme beam, feels like it takes forever.
My Holy Priest has a mastery build on my gear so I feel that’s really holding me back.

Meme beam and a good shadow build already are very helpful for this, as is the cyclotron trinket from mechagon for the added burst damage on minibosses which shadow lacks.
Once I unlocked the 200 sanity from elites research, I was able to complete two full clears of stormwind as a shadow priest. I will admit I am very geared, but something like that also isn’t currently necessary, and is very ahead of the curve.
The most important things were being able to use beam well, and knowing how much I could handle at once without dying or the pull taking an inefficient amount of time. Any attempt to kill multiple trash mobs quickly without beam (Or high chorus stacks coming off a strong voidform on a miniboss) was very slow compared to other classes, as was any miniboss I didn’t have cyclotron or beam for. Any time I had beam I tried to pull at least 3 packs, if not 2-3 packs and a mini boss.

Alkinia, thanks. I wish I had it but I don’t normally do M+. I just heal raids and do some solo content.
I did change my build around a bit to more of a leveling build. I’ll try it out soon. I’m hoping to get more gear before I go back in but I’m almost maxed out on the keys.
