I can’t believe I’m making a thread about this.
I used to be able to return flags in WSG/TP easily the moment they were dropped. The flag model was enormous, clearly visible from any angle, and flashed when it was dropped.
Ever since the WSG rework, the graphic is tiny, practically invisible, and basically unclickable amidst a sea of players unless your camera happens to be at the proper angle. Even when I know it dropped, I’m wildly clicking a pile of bodies hoping that my cursor prioritizes a nearly non-existent object over someone’s particles that make their clickbox ten times the size of their model. The sheer length of time a flag will sit on the ground sometimes during a fight is a pretty strong indicator to me that everyone else is playing the same randomly clicking game that I am and hoping for the best.
Anyone have any tips for actually clicking the stupid thing now, or is it basically just pray you happen to have the camera angle advantage the instant it appears?
Some people bind the click function to mousewheel up and down for faster spamming. As far as finding the new flag amidst particle effects and characters goes, it’s more of a pain now but it’s a pain to everybody.

Thanks for the scroll wheel tip, I might end up doing that myself.
Very frustrating change. Not sure what compelled them to make that when we already had to deal with mammoth sitting IoC flags a while ago. Not sure why PvP objects don’t just have foreground priority at all times. Oh well, submitted a suggestion to revert the model - not that I expect they’ll ever do so.

I see that you play horde. For some reason, they made the horde flag super tiny and low to ground where it is extremely difficult to return in a crowd due to nameplates and bodies getting in the way.
i suggest switching to alliance since that flag is still large and high to the ground making it much easier to return.
A couple of pointers. Make sure that your mouse is in position before the flag drops and click where you think it is going to drop before you actually see it. You can return the flag before it becomes fully visible.
Also, try to time any aoe cc that you might have right as the flag is about to drop.
If you really wanted to try to counter what they have done to the horde flag, you could set a keybind to change your camera to first person when it drops and disable nameplates. I haven’t tried that, personally.
It’s not a pain for alliance (for returning), since their flag still has the old model. I guess they figured alliance needed a crutch or something. :P.
I play both factions pretty evenly (if anything, I bg on Alliance more) and I struggle to return the flag as both ever since the rework. Was actually playing Alliance when the umpteenth unclickable flag cost me a game and prompted me to make that post.
I definitely know the gameplay ways to try to skew the drop to my advantage (AoE CC on drop, have cursor ready, etc) but it constantly feels like I just happen to have an unfavorable camera angle relative to its facing and even if it’s on the ground for a few seconds I can never seem to actually click it through players. I was hoping someone might know of an addon or some other trick to click through players, but I suspect the API doesn’t support it. Guess I’ll have to use the zoom-in trick along with maybe the scroll wheel thing.
Alas, I never had this problem until the rework. I pretty much always got the return unless I was out of range or CC’d when it dropped. Now it feels like it’s pure dumb luck if I’m able to click it at all even when it’s able to sit on the ground for a while. Wish we could just get the old flag back which honestly despite being low-res, looked better imo.
bind to scroll whe… damn too slow. also start clicking/scrolling before it actually drops for lag.
Vulpera, being low to the ground, might give an advantage. Kind of silly that you would have to try such things.
Agreed. Sorry for repeating stuff you had already said, I didn’t read through the full post before replying. The flag issue is something that really irritates me.
