Tips for Classic

Hello All…

Before you read…

This is a post compiling tips for making the journey easier when classic launches. This was originally going to contain information from 3rd parties, such as those lucky enough to get into beta or those who played on unofficial servers. Since unofficial servers are reportedly very different from how classic actually was and beta streamers can provide information on their channels, I decided to only include information from memory.

TLDR; This is off memory, not from beta streamers or those who played unofficial servers. It’s not much, but it’s what I remember.

Below follows by category.

Traveling:
-If you were attuned to Molten Core, there was a secret way to teleport inside. From the BRD summoning stone, jump down the spire’s chain and go straight into a small room. To the left is a window. If you jump through it, you teleport into Molten Core.
-Above Ironforge(on top of the mountain) is a gated tunnel. This tunnel had an end point where it just stopped and there was nothing. If you levitated(by spell or potion) and ran North, you could quickly travel to the Hinterlands due to the height of the drop.
-Traveling to the Searing Gorge quickly required a key to open the gate to a tunnel.
-Summoning stones were meeting stones.** Correction.
-Being hit while mounted would dismount you way easier.
-Mounts always dismount in water.
-CARROT ON A STICK…thottbot it…get it.

Gold/Professions:
-Level professions with your character. Some say to level professions after 60, but you’ll spend more time traveling back to farm nodes later than just doing it as you level your character.
-Don’t go enchanting or alchemy unless you are high ranked in your guild. Your guild is only going to give the good recipes to those they trust to be in the guild long term.
-Don’t get a profession for the crafted gear. Raid instead.
-Mining/herbalism are safe ways to make gold.
-Cooking/fishing can make you good gold. Make raid food and put on AH.
-Get 1 or 2 people and farm elites on Alcaz Island. They drop Pristine Black Diamonds.**Item name correction.

Cities:
-Underneath Orgrimmar was a giant crater, for which you would drop into if you accidentally mounted in a certain spot. You don’t want to do this because the only way out was to walk out the back exit.
-Undercity had a ring of rooms high in the center, for which you needed the speed of an epic mount to reach.

Utility:
-Attacking a player from behind while sitting 100% crits. RIP dock afkers.
-When the game launches, create multiple classes and park them all in the nearest inn. Get some rested XP growing in the event you want to reroll.
-Mounts took up bag space.

Classes:
-Hunters can get the “ghost” saber around level 20 in darkshore. This is a very strong cat that is transparent and will last you arguably until lvl 60.
-Rogues should pickpocket everything.
-Rogues should go herbalism for their poison materials.
-If you want thunderfury, you better be a warrior or a ninja. Otherwise, you’re not getting it.

Dungeons/Raids:
-SFK drops twink dagger Assassin’s Blade. Very rare. AH it for easy gold.
-Uldaman is a pain, but its quest line is a must for the XP.
-SM Cath has a secret room, opened by a hanging wall candle.

Let me know what you remember.

Meeting stones were changed to Summoning Stones in Burning Crusade. Prior to TBC (thus, Classic) the Meeting Stones had no summoning functionality. It was like a severely gimped LFD since it thrown together 5 people at random without care for group composition.

If you want summons, you better be buddies with a Warlock.

Always be nice to your healer.

I vaguely remember this. I must have been mistaken.

I’m sure quite a few things are going to take me by surprise going back to Classic since I never played on private servers and my recollection of the old world is vague. Seems like I learn something new about it every day. I can’t wait to get started.

You can only build up like 2 levels of rested XP. Even in classic the low levels go very quick.

Level them to 5 before putting them to bed, then the 2 levels of rested XP will be worth more.

That is good advice.

Many of these are wrong. Pristine crystal shard aint even an item.
“Hunters can get the “ghost” saber around level 20 in darkshore. This is a very strong cat that is transparent and will last you arguably until lvl 60.”
-Pets of the same family type are identical in stats except attack speed!

Going off memory on all of this.
-Pristine Crystal Shard; after googling I mixed up the name of this item. Pristine Black Diamond.
-In regards to the pet, its good, hard to see, and you kinda stated my point. It doesn’t need to be replaced until 60.

I’m sure I’m remember some incorrectly, but its just a discussion off memory.

The launch will be hell for herbalists and miners. It’s far better to farm those goods after you have your level 40 mount and the starting areas are not that much populated anymore.
Take skinning and sell leather to the NPC trader to make enough money for the mount.

Alchemy isn’t a bad choice, especially for a healer.
If you want to raid, you need pots.

There is pretty good pre-raid BIS gear that is crafted.

Probably 2/3 of the server population will have at least one of those two professions. Especially in the first few weeks after launch you won’t make any decent amount of money with them.

Wait, aside from going all the way through BRD… how else do you get into MC? It wasn’t really a secret as much as “That’s the way you do it”.

1.12 should have the attunement teleport from that one NPC in the little room. Uh… Lothos Riftwaker, according to WoWhead.

When the pvp mounts come in, the wolf and ram from AV especially buy those with the tokens and save some gold

Also, AV is where hunters get frost bullets, I believe it is the only place they can get frost bullets.

Dont tame a pet with with mana, like a wind serpent.
Casting pets were pretty trash.

He was added when they created the Attunement, but I didn’t think it was until a later expansion that he’d do the teleport. Stuck Taurens always made me laugh.

My guild back in Vanilla did the initial attunement run to MC by going through the BRD portal, turning left, jumping off the bridge to the left, swimming across the lava field, cross the bridge, by the BRD Dark Iron Forge, and you’re at the MC entrance and the wall with the attunement stone. After that, you just had to click on the Elf at the bottom of the chain…or jump out the aforementioned window :o)

Get the key to UBRS. People will pay to have you unlock it for them.

Clicking on the elf wasn’t possible during Vanilla. The window was the only attuned entry.

Vanilla was many many years ago. My memory is fading fast…
