Tip of the day- Getting a mount

Didn’t see it posted so thought I would give a tip for people planning to start their leveling to 60.

Tip of the day: Save your money for your mount from the start.

  1. Only buy upgraded spells that you actually use.
  2. Pick Herb/Mining/Skinning/Fishing - sell on the AH
  3. Stay away from the AH and spending money on gear.
  4. Level the rep up for your character’s faction to reduce the cost of the mount.

If you follow these points you should be able to get a mount once you ding 40. This will help you quest and level much faster as well as farm mining/herb nodes to make even more money.

Flip side: Play a feral druid and skip the mount!

  1. a good idea of spells to skip is increased ranks of Resurrection (rank 1 still does the job, they just get less health and mana); increased ranks of gouge, etc.
  2. or just vendoring the stacks if no one is buying.
  3. buy bags - but make sure you check AH bag prices vs vendor bag prices
  4. very much so.

how much was the lvl 40 mount with no discount? I forgot…

Be Warlock or Paladin, go to trainer, learn mount spell.

Loot everything. (Bonus - get an addon so you know the vendor price. If your bags fill up, drop the 1c items and keep the 50s items to sell.)

Run instead of fly when possible. Those flight paths can add up.

Roll a clothie class, since they have the cheapest repair bills.

Before the 1.12.1 patch, the mount was 80 gold and the training was 20g (but there was separate training for each type of mount, so wolf riding and raptor riding each had a cost.) Sourced from a wow wiki:

In a nutshell, the cost of learning to ride a mount and the cost of purchasing a mount have been swapped. Instead of paying 80g for a regular mount (undiscounted) and 20g (undiscounted) to learn riding for that mount, you will pay 20g for a regular mount and 80g to learn the riding skill.

I didn’t look it up so I could be wrong but I believe it is 100 for training and 10 for the mount.

EDIT: I guess it was 80-20 leaving this up either way

A feral druid or a shaman has a +40% speed travel form. If you plan on doing a ton of PvP anyway, you can apparently get a boost to this (druid only maybe?), but if not/until then, the difference between travel form and even a basic mount (+60% speed) is highly noticeable.

I am excited to see peoples’ reactions at such a… deflated(?) economy. Including saving for mounts.

I’m going to bet that we’ll see some stuff with stupid high prices at first, until people learn what is considered obtainable amounts. With that said, BiS world drops like Edgemaster’s Handguards are going to be worth a fortune now that we know so much.

Not a bad post, except we don’t “ding” in WoW. It’s more of a “whoosh”. “Ding” is a carryover from Everquest, and people just kept using it.
Next time you level, listen to the sound.

Except for the speed reduction for feral travel form

Except Bloodlord Mandokir dosnt shout woosh, he shouts ding.

I believe blizzard said they would be running the reverse this time. Cheap training expensive mounts.

This is probably the biggest thing I found towards getting your mount. More slots= less thrown away= more gold + less trips back and forth.

All well and good, but be cognizant of the fact that when you go for your epic mount, not only will likely spend the same amount of cash as a regular epic mount, you’ll need to find a group to finish the quests with.

I did that! I didn’t buy a mount until I got to level 60. Turns out travel form was just fine

Paladins, Warlocks, Druids and I think even Shamans get special mounts or mount forms that make them move more quickly, negating the need to buy a pricey mount.

While travel form and ghostwolf are amazing tools they have their limitations. I wouldn’t say they negate the need to buy a mount they just just make it less sufferable to not have one.
