Tinker Class: Something Only WoW can do?

Engineer was supposed to be a class that never happened.

As for other games, Asheron’s Call 2 had a class where you put down turrets and walls then maintained and buffed them. It was a great class for camping spawn areas and just farming all day.

For what it’s worth, Azerite technology is incredibly destructive and dangerous.

Which makes it GREAT for a Tinker class. Let me reduce my enemies to bits!

Let me pitch it to you this way:

In WC3, The Tinker hero had a Mech.

In WC3, The Demon Hunter hero could Metamorph into a giant demon.

Blizzard is committed to making these classes feel like their WC3 counterparts. So much so that they took Metamorph Away from Warlock, because it originally belonged to Demon Hunter.

Tinkers will have a Mech suit. It would be unjust otherwise.

I’ll look into this.

This just makes me think Science Vessel 100% lol
And now i want the healer spec to have a mini Science vessel pet for healing. Or at least have a mini Science Vessel as just a normal battle pet thing.

Oh my goodness

Let me cast Defensive Matrix on my allies.

Big disagree. Necromancers (A class that I would LOVE to have. You could have a healer-based Necromancer about restoring wounds ) have been in Warcraft since Warcraft 2. WotLK had necromancers and Shadowlands has Necromancers. Heck, Deathwing had necromancer skills. He raised one of his children from death only to have him raise his sister so they could both be zombie-dragons.

But I think Tinker (which should totally be in the game) could be broken down to a tank, heal, and dps class. Tank could use a mech suit, heals could use rays and gadgets to keep teammates alive, and dps would use turrets and bombs.

Necromancers could be a heals/dps class, like DH are a tank/dps class.

This is all true, I think it ultimately comes down to 2 things.

  1. Basically ever RPG has a Necromancer class
  2. Death Knight Already has a spec that constantly raises skeletons, zombies and skeleton mages.

Tinker doesn’t override existing themes as much.

Let me go Full Starcraft Ghost. With Nukes, EMPs, Railguns and Explosives.
And I wanna tank in a Mech.

Yes! A pet healer! We don’t have that yet. A healbot that wanders around healing guys. It would be fantastic, like idk if yall have ever seen commando and operative healing in swtor but stuff like that. Injections, heal Lazer beams, little healing drones, etc…

I’d love a science based class.

We don’t have an Intelligence Tank. We don’t have an Intelligence Gun user, We don’t have anything remotely like Tinker.

It’s gotta be the next step.

Agreed. Tinker would feel different from many different classes. Each spec could be similar to a specific spec of a different class, but no class is even close in theme.

And I see your point for Necromancer (I still want one. I made my Warlock go to Maldraxxus just so I could get close enough to it). Back in WotLK, the rumor (which I think is confirmed) is that the Devs couldn’t decide between a Necromancer and a Rune Warrior, so they combined them to make the Death Knight.

Worst case scenario it would take from the engineering profession and potentially from hunters, survival in particular.

Necromancers on the otherhand end up need stuff from:
Death knight - all specs
Warlock- demo and affliction
Priest - shadow

That’s 3 classes and 6 specs that would be losing skills, themes, and in some cases reworked entirely.

Necromancers would do more damage to the over all classes than tinker would.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

  • One could argue that Tanking in a Mech is mechanically similar to Tanking in Bear form.

  • One could Argue that doing damage by throwing bombs and building turrets is mechanically similar to Demo Warlock.

  • But no one can argue that Warlock or Druid is thematically similar to Tinker at all.

Warlock Tier 2 Armor from Blackwing lair, Straight up turns you into the Necromancer support unit from WC3.

I don’t even think this is likely. None of the 3 classes we’ve gotten added before have hurt professions. Death Knights even had their own unique enchants!

I disagree. Demo is minion swarm, you could have an ammo based mechanic. Like basic grenade throws build up ammo and you spend ammo on high end spells and cds. Id envision the turret more like the original flame tounge totem not like an imp.

This is only thing that could boost sub for shadowland, make it happen blizzard

I would absolutely kill for this.
Imagine having to “Reload” every few spell casts, being able to load special ammo into your gun for special effects. Slowing ammo, or Electric ammo or something I’d be so down.

I want Turrets to be interactive, not passive like searing totem. An ability to put down more turrets, or to overcharge your turrets would be great.

I would argue that it -is- a PvE Focused MMO. It just happened to have an interesting take on Battlegrounds, so people enjoyed that during its prime.

But, yeah, endgame is basically nonexistant. You either grind for legendaries for fashion or whatever, or you just check back for their seasonal story content.

You know maybe I should give GW2 a better shake. The Engineer class was really interesting. I chose to play an Asura. Who are adorable, but I just couldn’t get into the universe like WoW. They were lacking in customization, though.

I love turrets, and really loved my Engineer in GW2. I’d kill what’s left of the Night Elf race for an Artificer / Engineer / Tinker class.

I can accept these terms.

Actually, The Dichotomy between Night Elves and Goblins was something I really liked in WC3, before they came up with goblins vs gnomes.

It’s hard to get into GW2 after not having played it since release, but I really do love the Engineer class there.

Turrets, zone control, and just a teensy bit of chaos. The randomness of many of your abilities absolutely made me fall in love with the class. Is this potion going to make me a stupid giant in the middle of this pivotal PvP fight? Or am I going to become a freakin’ tornado?

That makes me think of how Judgment was used in classic, with the different seals. It easily could be a very similar system with Turrets, basically you ready a type of ammo and then plop down the turrent.
And i feel like a really well done method for overcharging or putting more turrets down would be as simple as making them standard abilites to do that, and the choice is the players. Since multiple turrents would be better vs swarms or group fights. But a solid overcharged turrent would be better at Boss fights, but you could also overcharge like a grenade launcher for fighting swarms as well!
