Tinker class = lame

But you’re “People who can’t define what they want other than hunter who uses engineering stuff more”

There’s nothing original about the idea.

Stinker class is a dud. More classes just for the sake of more classes is not interesting. It’s basically an engineering Ranger

Cool, none of the abilities for Tinker from WC3 are in the game, and there’s no tech class.

People have thrown out endless amounts of ideas about what Tinker could be. Someone even built them on a private server. Just because you ignore them, doesn’t make them not exist, and literally none of those ideas are described to be like a hunter lmao

i assume it would be like himerdinger minus the skill shots lots of turrets and stuff or “totems” if you will tossing bombs like they are skill shots and likely shooting an electric gun of some sort honestly sounds pointless mashup if thats what it would be

3 years later

Tinker might be the only option to compete with hunters with weapons that are ranged, although they most likely play as a old survival hunter spec knock off.

Why are we still in this years old thread when there’s plenty of current ones about the same topic?

Because necromancer is only playable on the forums, plus it’s like playing with fire to see if they get flagged for it.

There are fresh recent topics, they just wanted the thrill of the dare.

Just look at gazlowe in heroes of the storm. Take that and put it into wow.

Want other works of art. Rocket raccoon is a tinker, Kang the Conquerer is a tinker, iron man is a tinker. All use their technology to fight.

We don’t really have that in wow as a class. Not Tesla towers, no plasma canon, no power armor or over shields. No repair bots that heal.

It is sad when a lot of people can’t understand why people want a tinker class but think engineering profession is enough when it truly isn’t

I want to do a Omni blast from my tech chest piece.

There have been plenty of fleshed out Tinker classes over the years. You just hate the idea so you act like they dont exist.

For those feeling like it wouldn’t offer anything new mechanically, here are some ideas (not looking at balance yet of course, just concepts):

Flamethrower: 10y range, AoE, moderate initial damage w/ stacking DoT that ramps intensity the longer targets are caught in it. Duration could be a few seconds or possibly have a ‘hold’ feature where you can burst a couple seconds or run it up to 5+ till you ‘overheat’ and it needs to cooldown 8-10s or something.

Death Laser: see HotS. For the sake of WoW it could operate like most spells with a charge-up cast time & hit pretty hard. Maybe add a unique pierce mechanic to any targets caught in the line-of-fire (may be outside the engine’s scope, just throwing the idea around).

Bots/turrets: not instant like totems but instead require a ‘cast time’ of 1.5-2s like most spells while you ‘tinker’ on the battlefield to deploy them. Once deployed they have pretty potent damage & motivate targets to evac - think Heimerdinger’s ultimate turret as a base, but scaled down to be more frequently used instead of a long cooldown.

Electro-harpoon: an electrified harpoon w/ rope tether hits a far off target - initial hit stuns briefly & shocks for modest damage after 2s. Skill can optionally be pressed a 2nd time in those 2s & will instead yank the target to you like death grip in lieu of damage (the choice here depends on if you’re running a melee bruiser or ranged damage, so you choose a pull vs dmg depending on your need).

I mention the melee bruiser since I think it might be interesting thematically to have options to play as a hammer/wrench wielding tinker, OR a rifle/pistol/blaster/etc. ranged variant. The GW2 engineer does a good job of filling all the different gear fantasies this way, even sporting an alchemy gun & more. Gnomes & Goblins sorely lack a proper option for their most iconic role & this all fits the bill.

I’d also say a robo-pack/tentacle arm kit could be a cool feature. It would be easy to make lots of functions come from this, like many of the unique ranged attacks mentioned or even interesting melee skills, like a ‘boa’ constricting grab, or a shove move like Balance’s typhoon, etc. It also dodges the problem of not seeing your character enough like mech suits could cause (which I still see value in as a long cooldown move, and I’m aware many players want of course).

Other concepts: missiles (single or barrage), “mega bomb” cooldown where it’s launched up & drops, electromagnetic effects, paralytic/petrifying bomb cluster where targets stepping on any of it will be stunned if they don’t stop moving 2s, gravity or shrink/growth rays causing speed/slow/confusion status effects, etc. Honestly it could be fun as heck & is only limited by one’s imagination. Tons of old ideas that were excluded from PvP or had level restrictions could be repurposed but ideally balanced for combat.

Tinker isnt happening.

I cant think of a more boring class!
Exclaimed the warrior. Known for swinging stick.

I always just assumed they were WC3 fans who liked the tavern hero and wanted to play something like it since none of the WoW classes represent it (like say how a rogue can be Warden-like for example).

I’m just always a fan of tech classes or heroes in fantasy stories. It is a plus when it is magic technology.

But things like Kang the Conquerer, Rick Sanchez in Rick and Morty, rocket raccoon, star lord, the high evolutionary, doctor doom are some of my favorite characters.

Also why I love destroy all humans.

Tinker class is absolutely brutal. Much rather have a REAL necromancer class.

It kind of has to. There’s too much tech and too many tech-based races in the game for there not to be a class based on them.
