I wouldn’t mind having an “incentive” to run a few old-school dungeons, but I’m not interested in making it a full time job to get a reward. RNG items be damned.
The “good stuff” requires between one and five thousand badges. What the? It isn’t even shared across characters. Insane.
You should get a quest item good for 500 badges the first time you run a timewalking dungeon during the event. You can also get a few badges during Anniversary events, but we’re past that.
It’s really not something you can effectively grind out. You just have to wait a few rounds until the 500s stack up and you can afford the reward you’re targeting. They happen once a month, so you can get roughly one mount a year from timewalking.
Not everything in WoW is a hand out. Why are you surprised by this? Some things take time. If you’re farming for currency after the 5 dungeon weekly and 500 resource quest you’re doing it wrong. I’m sitting at 10k on many characters and have all the rewards. There is no problem here.
There is a pretty large space between handout and 167 hours for one item.
That being said sometimes these rewards have such high prices so that they stay relatively rate. If you have to run time walking for a whole year before you get a mount the intention is that you pick the one mount you like best and call it a day.
The game isn’t built with a “gotta catch em all” mentality. So for players who do want to collect everything, know that it’s gonna be a grind.
I think I got every current TW reward, aside from all the heirlooms and rep tokens, over three years ago. It helps for the toys and pets and mounts if you have alts. 500 badges for every first run combined with splitting up the rewards makes things go much quicker.
Classes with Call to Arms (tank, sometimes healer) get around 250 badges per hour. So with the 500 badge quest it’s around 18 hours to get 5k for the mounts.
Not meant to be done all at once.
If you do 5 runs plus the once per event quest, you get 550 badges. More if you get the bonus from call to arms for a run.
10 event quests = 5000 badges plus whatever you got from running the dungeons.
You can also run them on alts who meet the minimum level requirement to get the 500 badge quest.
The actual played time to get the badges is very low unless you try to grind them like a crazy person.
Toss in a few alts and you can easily get all the vendor rewards after 10 TW events. Not too unreasonable for multiple mounts, toys and pets.
At this point I’m starting to worry they will make a new currency cause I have so many extra badges on my main.
I gotta agree OP, I did one 5000 badge mount just as the scaling was launched, I think I had 7 more dungeons to do before 5000, anyways I will never set foot in another TWD ever again! the scaling + too many badges makes them unfun to do now!
Really, timewalking happens once every month. You get 500 badges in 20 minutes, every month. If you play the game regularly, it’s no where near as grindy as you mention.
Also, you’re failing to mention the timewalking raid. The last BC one took me 4 hours. So I could get 1k in 4 hours, 20 mins. All with PuGs. Have a little patience and keep playing ; )
So basically what you’re really saying is, it isn’t grindy if you reconginse the insane grind it would actually be if you tried to do it asap. In reality it is just massively time-gated so as to collect enough 500 badge quests.
I loved Timewalking when it first came out. It gave me a reason to revisit old raids and grind out the best tier sets and trinkets so I could be OP as all get out. Then Blizz nerfed tier sets. Then Blizz introduced scaling to Timewalking and made what was a fun blast through an old dungeon into an eyeball gouging grind.
Luckily, I have all the token mounts as well as the rare drop dragon mount. This guy is also sitting on something like 6k badges just in case they introduce a new mount.
These event dungeons are just another instance where fun was detected and eliminated. It makes me a sad panda.
Where are you getting 167 hours for 5,000 badges from? That’s the second time you’ve brought up that number of hours and you totally made that up in your head. I have all the mounts, pets, and toys so far and I didn’t spend anywhere near 167 hours for all of them. It’s called doing it at least once per toon every event for the 500 badges quest and letting it stack, depending on how motivated you are. You don’t seem to be so don’t bother, I guess.
It’s meant for you to get currency over several events, not to burn yourself out trying to buy all the things in a single week.
If you just do a single dg per event , you will get one of the mounts in 10 months. If you have alts, do a single dg for each of them. You’ll see have all the rewards by the end of the year.
If you really want to speed things, get to tank or heal and complete the 5 dg of the week with that alt. He not only get shorters queues, but there’s often a 25 extra badges per dg due to lack of tanks/healers queuing.
