Timewarped Badge Farming

I’m finding posts from late last year saying you can get Timewarped Badges from the Chromie scenario when a Timewalking event is up. I tried it this morning with WoD Timewalking active and got no badges. Was this farming method nerfed, and if so, any other way to get badges besides TW dungeons?

I had the same result with getting no badges when I usually get between 10 and 100 per run during the event. I really hope it wasn’t nerfed. It worked with the previous Timewalking so hopefully it is just a bug with the WoD one.

Is this the scenario where you jump around time trying to find out who killed her and why?

Can confirm, just ran twice myself and didn’t get squat from ~30 sands per run.

Why do this though instead of, say, make Timewalking actually worthwhile? Every expansion’s dungeon pools (barring Cata, but that’s a different can of worms in itself) are a drag with a premade and often a hair-tearing nightmare that’d make even the buddha flip his table with a pug. The only reason anyone even bothers with them nowadays are for either the tokens or to powerlevel toons (which is probably also somewhere on Blizz’s hit-list, likely higher than doing something about stuff like cauldron bug and carry seller spam ad nauseam to boot).

Like c’mon, we’ve moved on from telling us to have fun to telling us how to grind.

Only other source of badges is during the anniversary events, but that’s once per year so hardly worth mentioning.

If you are after the big ticket items like mounts and toys, I highly recommend taking the alt approach.
Run 1 TW per alt high enough level to queue(for WoD 101+) and complete the once per event quest for 500 badges.
10 runs = 1 mount per character this way. It’s a bit of a long-term approach but much better for your sanity.

After a bit of time you’ll be rolling in badges. Trying to farm badges by chain running TW is only going to lead to burn out and resentment, not to mention take up all your free time.

I have 10’s of thousands of badges from this method and I’ve skipped a lot of events completely and still own everything except the new WoD stuff cause I haven’t gone to buy it yet.

World of Alt-craft.

If you want something in WoW, throw an army of alts at it. It’s the new way to play!

So you’re saying wait 10 TW events to get one mount? Not really seeing the logic here

That’s cos you’re looking at this through the eyes of a single character. Lets assume for the sake of this scenario, that you only have time (because of RL or whatever reasons) to run a maximum of 10 dungeons per event. Lets also assume that each dungeon also gives you a total of 50 badges for killing all the bosses in each dungeon.

So, scenario 1 - a single character:
first dungeon gets 550 badges, plus an additional (9x50=450) for total of 1000 per event. Banked on one character, this will take 5 events to afford a mount, after 10 events you would have bought a total of 2 mounts for that account.

Scenario 2 - 10 alts:
1 dungeon per alt per event is 550 badges, banked on 10 different characters. Will take 10 events to get to 5500 badges collected on each character. But seeing as you have 10 characters with 5500 badges each, at the 10th event you can buy 10 mounts for that account.

Total dungeons run: 10 per time-walking event = 100 runs. 10k total badges vs 55k. 550% more efficient over the long term.

Still makes no sense. In your scenario you still have to wait 10 TW events to get 1 mount. There’s only one mount available per event (2 for WoD). It’s not possible to get 10 mounts, I’m not really sure where you got any of that from.

This. I only ever do the 5 TW dungeons on each of my toons. Couldn’t fathom grinding them. Way too annoying.

It’s not about getting the mounts right away, if you want 5k badges in one event, you got a long and painful grind awaiting you.

I’m suggesting a simple, long-term strategy to get all the rewards without investing 100’s of hours into TW, assuming you keep an active sub.
Badges per run are severely diminished beyond the first run per event.

Of course if you’re also after the random drop mount still, you might be more motivated to run extras each event, but trying to brute force that mount is just another path to madness imo.

I’m envious of your free time…

I like this idea. Thank you.

I always mean to farm the events when they pop up, but after a run or two I lose interest.

Some of them are so frustrating with people rushing and making silly mistakes.

Because you’re thinking short-term.

I had the same philosophy/ plan YEARS ago, and when WoD-TW went live, I just walked up and bought EVERYTHING all in one shot because I have tens of thousands of badges already banked. Two new mounts? Got 'em. New toys? Got 'em. A new Dagger (new to me) and a new Gun xmog? Got 'em.

And I still have alts that have 2-7k badges on them.

You want to know why they reset the “polished charm” currency for Pet Battles in BfA? It’s because of people like me and Dakyras (oh! Who I think I actually have traded pets before! What a coincidence!). We have so much of the currency already saved up, that any “new content” is immediately obsolete.

If TW wasn’t so much more limited in scope than PBs (there are more than 1000 Pets, there are only 5 TWs), you can bet they’d reset that currency too.

This post is literally about getting TW badges for the current event. So your whole, “get a lot of alts and wait 10 TW events,” doesn’t help.

OP is literally asking for the best way to earn badges this TW event. It doesn’t help to talk about your long-term planning.

Also, aren’t you investing 100s of hours into leveling 10 alts? Along those lines, aren’t you waiting more than 100s of hours for 10 TW events to occur?

Sorry for offering an alternate solution to something many people seem to find overwhelming.
There is no good or efficient way to farm TW badges in a single event. Even if you get the bonus for filling a role every single queue it still takes an insane time investment to get enough badges for anything beyond the gear.

I guess I should have been more explicit in my reasoning, if you try to grind them you will need to invest many many hours into spam running TW dungeons.

There is no good way to get TW badges during a single event. No trick, no short cuts, nothing but a massive grind.

If I’m already playing the game otherwise, no I’m not investing time into TW specifically. Also most of my alts have been around longer than TW has, content droughts ftw.
Between free character boosts and just playing the game normally I’m sure many people have at least 3+ characters high enough in level to run every TW event.

And again, to reiterate, there is no good way to farm TW badges during a single event. Trust me, I tried back when they launched and were generally easier and faster than they are now.

To add some numbers:
assuming 50 per dungeon (optimistic, I think; that means 9 bosses or a bonus)
assuming half an hour per dungeon (about right, I think, when including queue time)
to get 5k (one mount) starting from nothing is 91 dungeons, or 45.5 hours, or (over 7 days) 6.5 hours a day. If you can do it, more power to you…

lol leave it to GD.

Ok so take the phrase “short-term, there’s nothing you can do. But keep this in mind…”

…and tack it on to every post like mine … THAT’S TRYING TO BE HELPFUL.

I swear these boards…

I laughed

but this is what upsets me the most. Blizz most likely nerfed the only method of getting TW badges that wasn’t complete mind numbing grind. Blizz forces us to come up with ridiculous methods to acquire such basic items.
