Timewalking scaling so bad it is now causing loss of progress

If you join as a dps or healer and get a low level tank with high movement speed, they can run ahead and kill bosses so fast they cause you to not get the quest credit. This is ridiculous. There needs to be some way to make it so people can cheese things in group finder so hard that they take away from others.

Kicking isn’t the option here because the line is so thin. Is it a super tank and you get a carry? Or is it a tank that is going to cause you to waste your time? Kick or no? It’s silly

I know it’s fun to cheese things sometimes but the scaling needs fixed OR they need to allow credit no matter what as long as you run to the boss and loot.

That’s actually hilarious.

People have been complaining about the scaling for a long time now, it only makes sense that it would continue to degrade as Blizzard continues to ignore it.

blizzard just wants you to buy a level skip, so the leveling experience is at best forgotten and at worst made worse.

not sure what can be done other than hoping maybe scaling might get fixed next xpac… just don’t get your hopes up.

Scaling is/was a mistake.

I get they want people to be able to play with lowbie friends and stuff, but man, I think it’s broken more things than it’s actually helped, in the end.

Also, it gave rise to low level twinks that stay low level, for reasons like OP stated.

And those twinks will always remain, because of scaling. It’s just abusing the scaling system, not that it’s against the rules or anything.

I’m calling shenanigans on that. I died with a twink running ahead last night, was at the front of Blood Furnace, he killed the last two bosses without me anywhere near there and I still got credit and still had loot on the bosses.

No idea if or how that works, plus I do not make it a habit to rush off, leaving everyone else behind me while I solo the dungeon. Even when people ask why I am not rushing a head I just tell them, it’s because not everyone wants me to do that, so I stick with the group.

Most twinks I’ve run with have been super chill and fun. This one wanted to beeline. lol

The death was my fault. I was dumb enough to hit my instant cast Chain Lightning, knowing he didn’t have aggro yet.

  1. BC TW is bad about this - I think it might be a specific dungeon or two rather than a general scaling problem. I’ve only really run into the “you were too far ahead and I didn’t get credit” issue (as in, they couldn’t even loot) with Quagmarran in Slave Pens. No one has ever mentioned it to me anywhere else. It’s like that one requires Line of Sight or something.
  2. I believe there’s a separate issue where the credit for dungeon completion (the only thing relevant for leveling and currencies) does not follow the same criteria as credit for completion for the Timewalking quest. ie: Skip some skippable bosses that aren’t out of the way and oopsie everyone got their completion bonus but it didn’t count for the quest). If that’s real, it’s a Blizzard issue that needs to be fixed. I’ve heard multiple people mention this but haven’t gone out of my way to test it. I tend to pull bosses that aren’t blatantly out of the way anyway (exception for the elf boss in Dire Maul due to the alt route being a lot faster).

As someone who twinks more than I play endgame these days, I still agree with this. Twinking is only so noticeably strong because the BASELINE scaling for low level characters is so strong.

Blizzard implemented it because they were letting anyone from any level range queue into the same content. They needed to make sure low levels with no real kit unlocked could still meaningfully contribute.

But they overdid it and literally never bothered to go back and make sure it wasn’t completely insane, which it obviously is. You can make a Level 10 Resto Shaman in the Allied Race starter greens and start soloing dungeons immediately. Not as fearlessly as an actual Twink, and yes they are one of the stronger specs in this level range in terms of raw numbers, but the fact that it is a thing at all is insane.

Blizzard needs to revisit level scaling. It’s fine that it exists. It’s necessary at this point. But there’s a line between ensuring everyone can contribute and making certain level ranges into gods in an effort to avoid them being useless. They need to get things on the correct side of that line.

I’m going to test this out this morning. I’ll take a character in who hasn’t done it, with the quest and see if I can get a dungeon where one or more bosses are skipped. I’ll report back after that and confirm what happened, because it is a concern for me.

I try not to run too far ahead of people when I have a twink in a dungeon and actually hit things as I’m going if I’m gathering a bunch so they don’t turn around and kill anyone, but in MoP remix it was common for some people to just ignore their group entirely and go as fast as they could.

It probably depends on the dungeon. It was a problem in MoP remix, but only in some dungeons that were more spread out. The range to get credit is pretty large.

Where exactly can I experience this? I’ve tried on a DK/Pally no issue.
Secondly how are people falling behind a level 10? Don’t most classes have movement speed boosts and they don’t?

They hotfixed that issue during Remix, I thought. Because it was a problem in the raids, not the dungeons. And I ceased having issues a little while after we all made a stink about it on the forums.

The faster the time walking dungeon is done, the better. Just run faster, problem solved. You’re welcome to build your own group and queue instead.

They may have. I don’t remember. I think remix had several hotfixes during the event.

I think there was also a separate issue at one point where sometimes a boss would get one shot and people wouldn’t get credit for it even when they were next to it. :man_shrugging:

If that was the case, why do they keep making leveling faster and faster?

If they wanted to encourage level boost sales, they would nerf speed leveling. Not constantly make it faster.
I swear y’all don’t even try anymore.

Considering how popular increasing movement speed was in remix and has been on various kinds of twinks for years at this point, maybe they should consider making attaining speed stat more accessible on max levels as well.

IE: maybe give enchanters the ability to add speed tertiary to items that don’t have a natural tertiary role (or replace ones that do)

Or let enchanters to all tertiary stats instead of making it RNG and limit leech and avoidance to certain slots.

I totally agree. I liked feeling strong in old areas and weak when I went out of my zone, but…I mean it’s just math. The idea that they can’t make this work is nuts.
