Timewalking scaling needs to be reassessed

Just finished levelling a Guardian druid from 1-73 through Timewalking. I stopped at level 73 for a reason, because I was unable to survive trivial trash fights & bosses like the first boss of DM & Smite. You go through a rollercoaster of player power while going up in level. From feeling busted at level 10, to weak at level 45, to strong again at level 60 and then pathetically useless at level 70+. I am a veteran WoW player who plays with auras and addons & this feels like crap, I cannot even begin to imagine what the new/amateur player experience feels like when the scaling is all over the map like this.

I cannot stress this enough, but this does not feel like a midpoint being normal & heroic as said in your original mission statement for these scaling adjustments. I am getting TRUCKED and frantically pressing all of my defensives to survive & it is still not remotely enough. We went from TW being an enjoyable, easy experience most of the time, and sometimes having a really geared player joining & carrying to a grueling slog when your party members aren’t geared. Granted, I had level 70 heirlooms on me the entire time leveling and it didn’t feel like it at all! What is in the incentive in even buying these things if the item level is sh*t compared to the content we’re doing.

So… you had gear capped at 70, you’re 73, and you’re getting trucked and feel surprised?

You don’t think your survivability would dramatically increase if you had level 73 gear?

Genuine question, im trying to understand that

It’s not hard to understand that the gearing should happen passively through dungeon spamming but you don’t get nearly enough gear to replace all of your level 70 pieces at level 71. And yes, this may be a radical opinion but 70 gear should hold me over until 73. For the record, the trucking started happening at 70, not 73.

Also, because of Blizzard’s own 25% warband buffs + the two anniversary XP buffs, the leveling is happening too fast for the gear curve to catch up. Blizzard should know this.

I don’t think 70 vs. 73 gear should make THAT much of a difference. It was very noticeable to me on my characters as I leveled them up how drastic my DPS changed from even 69 to 71. Totally tanked after hitting 70. The scaling is weird and I agree I’m not a huge fan.

Can confirm. It’s feels bad as any role. Might actually be harder than a +10 lol

I see, its difficult for me to understand it only because this is sort of par for the course when you’re leveling. 73-74 is when you start to replace Mythic from previous expac to greens from new and right there is when you get the hit in performance from your class. But once you get into full blues at 75 it ramps up again and you kind of skate by till 79 which is the biggest percentage difference in stats per gear, usually.

I don’t mean to say there isn’t a scaling problem at all.

Just curious if it’s exacerbated by not gearing properly along the way. But I guess if you’re unlucky with drops?

Gear really does make a difference though considering you go from around 336ilvl to 450+ just by getting gear at level 71

Spend MAYBE 2000gold at the AH or a couple hours farming and crafting and you’ll see a huge difference

Yeah this is what I was getting at. There is a difference between greens at 70, and 400+ at 70. Those are two very different set of stats that age differently for the next 3 levels.

I will admit some of my gear has been total crap while leveling through TW lol. But that is usually how it always goes when dungeon leveling with or without TW. I don’t notice that much of a difference when doing normal dungeons.

I think what you’re not getting is that it’s not a smooth curve, I went from being able to tank normally at level 69 to being 2-shot at level 70. This is a scaling problem not a gear problem unfortunately. I know this because I hop into TWW normal dungeons & can tank just fine with the gear I have. It’s TW scaling, which is what this post was written to address.

yea i love casually healing 500-700k hps on trash pulls as a hpally while leveling. they were perfectly fine before idky they had to create a problem that didnt exist. oh and that 500-700k hps was apparently nothing since as per the tank i was a bad healer and he was carrying me lol. i might as well have been doing a 5 key at 75 with a useless tank and 1 dps who was afk the whole dungeon

I would argue that the scaling with TW past 70 is set in relation to doing quests in TWW and getting better gear as you queue for TW.

TW dungeons afford less EXP and Worse Gear than normal dungeons (iirc) so the motive is to push people to play current cintent rather than sit in TW

Another glaring issue that this causes is the VTK plague. My brother who is a 3k io healer has gotten 3 VTKs (1.5h of deserter) for the shoddy healing scaling that is happening in TW. This didn’t happen as often when we got scaled down to the level of the dungeon because everyone was on a level playing field (and you could use old gear sitting in your bank to twink out your character). Now that gear suddenly matters, the parity between players is being sorely affected. I have no idea why they chose to change the way TW scales.

Also, TW dungeons give MUCH more end of dungeon XP than TWW normal dungeons.

blizzard likes to create problems when something is going smoothly and people dont hate it so they can add a nerf in and look like they did something good. ide say 90% of the problems blizzard has in wow were created by them just because and then the 10% are bugs.
