I’m leveling a new bdk through timewalking today. I noticed something weird. The scaling for the mobs are so weird.
At level 10-20ish, I have such a hard time getting runic power while mobs hit me like a truck that I cannot death strike at all.
At level 20-30ish, all went good and nothing really happens that much. Smooth runs and can do big pulls with no problem.
At level 40-60, at the begining, everything is so ez, death strike and all other defensive cooldowns are doing their thing, healing me and its like a speed run.
HOWEVER, while i reached 58, everything hits me about 20k damage per melee and I only have 80k health.
The trees casts lighting bolt that hit me for 25k while i have my defensives up. I can only block so much with ams.
Literally have to pull 2 mobs max at a time while struggling to death strike on cooldown.
Yes, I know how to play bdk, and yes, I even plans defensives for mobs…
I have no idea what is going on here, other than the scaling or tuning is so bad rn.
Content scaling and the XP curve are both so badly in need of attention, it’s almost comically ridiculous.
On the XP side, 50-60 is ridiculously faster than, say, 40-50. It was worse in DF but it’s still bad.
On the content scaling front, you are correct: the scaling isn’t smooth. There are very weird inflection points. 70 is a big one, in part because the game now assumes you’re ilvl <400 even though DF dungeons drop ilvl 467 gear at 70 and you can get plenty of ilvl 450-480+ gear trivially in DF that you won’t replace until 75+ in TWW.
We really need to step back and ask the question: if all content scales, what exactly is the point of levelling? Is it just to time gate “end game” activities? One could say it’s not to overload you with abilities/talents but that happens anyway because the low levels go by so fast. I mean I did DF 10-70 in <11 hours in DF. Now it’s even faster.
The sad thing is, I tried so hard to play and live while other randoms in the team thinks I dont know how to tank… As a result, I get kicked for it. Happened twice already.
I told them to look at details, and look at how much death strike I just cast. No one cared…
True and real. Idk how this is gonna be fixed but I really have a hard time trying to not get “kicked from the group” while sweating in tw dungeons while leveling…
Prior to the TW level change, some expansions had vibrant queues for low level dungeons. It’s a big problem that you have to choose what expansion to queue dungeons for. TBC/WotLK were IME the best.
I haven’t tried this since the change but I suspect they’re a lot more dead because there’s literally zero point in queueing non-TW dungeons.
An additional issue with TW is that the mob scaling is completely random. Some trash will just two-shot you for really no apparent reason. It forces you into smaller pulls and just makes the thing much more of a chore than it needs to be.
And this makes the “wanting a twink” problem worse because a twink can still generally make big pulls without being one or two shot.
And then the tanking changes in the prepatch made everything worse because tanks are squishier than they were in DF.
AND they made a bad game design decision with content scaling. Any system where you get waker as you level is going to feel awful no tmatter the details.
I genuinely don’t know what to expect. The thing that pisses me off the most is that people tell you to pull more or pulls for you and when you die, they tell you “you suck” and kick you out of the instance.
I have no problem with the fast speed of leveling. It’s the power level players get through leveling. Like I said in the beginning, the scaling is all over the place. That’s what makes it sad.
I love the early power spikes and the added damage.
They scaled max level characters damage by turning bosses into sponges for them. They’re taking design philosophy from Destiny 2. Bungie thought things died too fast, so they turned everything into bullet sponges. Game became stale and drawn out due to prolonged engagements that really added nothing to the game.
They tried to turn everything into a sponge in already trivial content to prolongue the amount of times someone has to use their rotation. It’s garbage and players found a work around.
I’m not sure if you understand what I’m saying. Maybe you are just replying to the other person. But what I was saying is that the early power spike is okay, but then at some later level you quickly lose it for a few levels and you gain it back after that. The scaling is all over the place. THAT is the problem. Letting people learn the rotation and mechanics is one thing, me personally I have that down already. But isn’t the point of getting new abilities make you stronger?
The scaling should attune to that.
But right now. When I set up my normal defensives, PLUS major defensives and the mobs are still hit me like a truck. That’s not acceptable for me. It’s not ok when at some levels I don’t even need to press any thing to live while others I literally have to sweat to try to live.
Players: This TW scaling using the Chromie Time tech to scale content to players is backwards and has lots of issues, mostly making players weaker as they level up.
Blizzard: We are adding ilevel scaling to TW at level 80.
