Timewalking level requirement

Prior to the level squish we got at the end of BFA (when we went from 120 max level to 50 max level), we used to be able to queue to timewalking dungeons based on the max level of a character during the expansion for which the event was.

Example: for TBC timewalking we only needed to be 70, Cataclysm 85, MoP 90, and so on.

When the level squish happened, the new rule was basically “be the starting level of this expansion / max level for last expansion” to be able to queue for timewalking dungeons. In Shadowlands we had to be 50 to queue, and Dragonflight requires us to be 60 to queue.

Instead of being the max level of the expansion that the timewalking event currently celebrates, we are restricted on being “previous expansion’s max level.”

While I don’t think timewalking is intended for level 10 and above (since we have Chromie time for that, after all), it would be nice to lower the level requirement for timewalking so that people 60+ can queue with their friends who are maybe 30+ or 40+ for timewalking when the event is up.

I know not everyone will agree, and that’s okay, but I think devs should consider lowering to level requirement for timewalking. This way, more characters could participate in the event and it would also allow people’s alts to queue with their max level friends for the event.

While the idea sounds great I think having a narrow level range (60-70) allows better scaling for that level range. If the level range is wider, the content could be too easy for some levels and too difficult for other levels. We have seen this effect in dungeons when low and high levels do it together.
Leveling is fast enough for friends/alts to quickly reach the minimum level required.

Sure, but Timewalking right now is already easier than it ever has been. TBC/Wrath in particular used to be more challenging pre level squish. Dungeons now take 5 mins or less because everything falls over.

I agree, however I dissent on still limiting timewalking. If I can do any of the previous expansions at level 10… Why would I be barred from participating in the timewalking events as well? Scale the new player up to the level if required, the system exists.

I also want to state at this time that the timewalking dungeons, should in no WAY, inherit the new dungeons effects Blizzard input to make them “Mythic.” Timewalking is experiencing the dungeon AS IT WAS when that content was available. It is not to experience the new trashy way you’ve ruined the classical dungeon. Why they even dare change the classic dungeon to bring them up to mythic is beyond me. You want to bring older dungeons up front, then bring them up as they were originally designed. Stop modifying them because “The difficulty for mythic just isn’t there” or whatever random reason you’re using to ruin the classic feel of a dungeon. or if you really want to change them, change the dungeon only for Mythic.

I think it’s feasible to limit above 10 because timewalking dungeons are heroic tuned/heroic mechanics - at least that was how they were originally released, which is why you would get heroic dungeon achievements upon completion. Not sure if they made these “mythic tuned” or intend to in the future but that defeats the purpose of timewalking.

While the idea is nice, I’m not sure how feasible scaling up a level 10 character to 40 or so would be unless you make them play with a pre-set talent tree and pre-set bars when they enter (aka I doubt that will ever happen). Imagine waiting several minutes at the start of each dungeon to have level 10’s select all the talents they need.

Yes! I’d love a larger range of timewalking. I find it such a fun way to level my alts, especially with friends, and re-experience dungeons from past expansions I normally don’t run anymore. It’d be great to expand the range a bit!

Yeah, I think it’s a great way to break the monotony of current expansion dungeons (especially when there’s so few and less diversity compared to previous expansions). Also adds that lovely nostalgia feeling.
