Time to Stop Dividing the Playerbase

TL;DR - simplify gear and paths to get it. It’s too bloated. Simplified for Paladins.

So this idea will get flamed, picked apart, and may even draw in the folks who prefer to use insults rather than discuss its merits. But, I am going to do it anyway in the off chance it gets seen, and considered. Gear is the biggest argument in this game, driven by the paths to get it. There are also so may names for it. So let’s use the K.I.S.S. method, and balance it out.

Veteran Gear: currently 584-606
Champion Gear: currently 597-619
Hero Gear: currently 610-626
Mythic Gear: currently 623-639

My proposed change:
Veteran Gear: currently 584-597
Champion Gear: currently 597-611
Hero Gear: currently 612-625
Mythic Gear: currently 626-639

Veteran Gear: 584 (1/4) upgrade with Valorstones and Weathered Crests
Champion Gear: 597 (1/4) upgrade with Valorstones and Carved Crests
Hero Gear: 612 (1/4) upgrade with Runed Crests
Mythic Gear: 626 (1/4) upgrade with Gilded Crests

Add in a currency transfer from Valorstones into Crests, vice versa, and make all of these Currencies Warbound. Now, making gearing more uniform:

Veteran Gear:
Delves T1-T3 | Mythic 0-+3 | Follower / Normal Dungeons / LFR

Champion Gear:
Delves T4-T6 | Mythic +4-+6 | Heroic Dungeons / Normal Raids

Hero Gear:
Delves T7-T10 | Mythic +7-+9 | Heroic Raids

Mythic Gear:
Delves T11 (no Zekvir) | Mythic 10+ | Mythic Raids

Blizz can sort out the specifics, I am just making reference points. Now, we make the uniform gear matter. If you get your drops, in your chosen content, the gear is automatically 2/4 instead of 1/4, but scales back to 1/4 if you try to use it in another type of content. SO, this means, if you farm ONLY the content you want to play, you save time needing to upgrade and farm crests. This also means you cannot farm Delve Gear for mythics, or Follower for Heroics. You still have to pay to upgrade.

Now, is this ideal? No. Gearing in TBC -BfA was ideal cause we did not need a great vault. But speaking of the vault, here is the other bonus. You can farm every aspect for gear, However, the vault gear would work the same way. So if you did 10s all week and pick a Mythic Vault line item, it will automatically be 2/4, 3/4 or 4/4 based on your current gear level and what you completed for the week.

Again, this is 100% hypothetical. The decision ultimately rests with Blizz. They would have to decide what, if anything, would work. But to me, it seemed like an idea that could keep people in their own lanes, give them free upgrades, and encourage them to pick their preferred content for gearing.

And now, let the discussion commence! (and hopefully it is real discussion and not just insults, infighting, and the trollish No /10chars)

i just think we need less tiers, there’s way too many

I agree. I miss when gear was : Normal or Heroic. TBC was a great example. Maybe the gear should be simplified and the content redesigned to meet the gearing.

Your post has a lot of micro number crunching, too much for my brain atm, day drinking.

But um the Warband thing needs to be implemented otherwise Warbands are DoA. They do nothing to help you gear your alt beyond 3 Renown pieces. It’s actually rather insulting.

“But bro, what about WuE gear?”
Laughable.

It boils down to the all mighty MAU…
They need to slim down the gear tiers… Imo veterns needs to go

The problem is that even as recently S1 for dragonflight, raid gear was mostly useless because it couldn’t be upgraded while M+ gear could. We can’t go back to simply having normal or heroic gear unless we also do something with M+ gear. That or only have 4 tiers of M+ that coincide with LFR, normal, heroic, and mythic, but that’s unlikely.

I feel like two of them need to go. Have Champion and Mythic. Split the ilvls between them, and then add multiple drop and upgrade paths.

This is why maybe reducing the number or tiers and increasing the upgrade options through most paths could be an answer. I would love to see Heroic and Mythic allow for upgrades (raiding and dungeoning).

I think the most insulting thing about the game right now is how they don’t give you enough crests to upgrade a piece at the end of the dungeon, they purposely take away a few crests just to make you run 2 dungeons for 1 upgrade.

The stones and crests not being Warbound is the other insult.

They hyped Warbands up wayyyyyy too much. “Hurrr durrr Warbands, our pinnacle feature that doesn’t even help you, yayy!!! FOR THE HORD!!!”

This is why I think either streamlining, or thinning, the gear line would make things more straight forward and attainable. It’s a game. We should not have to make WoW a full time career just to gear. Plus, the more characters we can gear, the more we stay subbed to play.

I mean its to the point where I’m considering going Monk in Season 2 so I can feed my heal spec crests by tanking and vice versa.

This is a problem that has a solution literally in game called Warbands, but they refuse to let anyone gear alts. It’s pathetic. I gotta stop thinking about it or I’ll get tilted. Stingy af company with 90$ mounts.

Well, Warbands are new, and to their credit, still being fleshed out. They said it would be revised constantly and “evergreen”, so let’s see where it takes us in 11.1 and 11.2 before we write it off entirely. :blue_heart:

I don’t give a rusted Tonka Dump Truck if they’re new. They are purposely dragging this crap out with this crest debacle.

Just a suggestion…

It’s just a game. Took them 10 years to get Hunters to stop needing on all gear. Now we are getting Trilogies every 5 years.

Breathe, and let’s see what happens.

I wish I could be literary without being told to calm down.

One thing that some miss, but Blizzard does not, is that there are those that willingly dabble in multiple content forms. Systems like yours here come across as punishing those that do such.

The problem is how do you keep people from doing content they don’t like for that side/upgrade while not coming across as punishing those that dabble in multiple forms of content, made harder by the idea that itemization can vary to the point of BiS lists can be devided into:

Over all BiS (combines raid, M+ and at least crafted)
Raid BiS (only drops in raid)
M+ BiS (M+ only drops)

I don’t want content deleted.

delves are not difficult enough to give the same rewards as 10s or mythic raiding.

people should not be steered to “stay in their own lane”. while each lane should have the option of gearing a person. a person should be not be held back if they want to try multiple forms of content.

There is a difference between literary and whatever that was… I mean, if it were me. I could invoke emotion about warbands in another way…

“After 20 years of being forced to keep my alts, and my factions separate, the elation I felt by getting warbands was only matched by the disappointment of their extreme limitations when introduced. I wish deep down they had waited until they had a fully fleshed out and successful implementation before giving us a basic version of what it could look like.” :blue_heart:

I hate this excuse. It’s a game, not a job. Casuals should have a pathing option too. If they had gear via their path, they could raid with their guild and stay away from bricking keys.
