There’s no more Horde vs Alliance conflict in lore.
So, what’s the point of having two factions at this point? Why not just remove the factions and let people queue with whoever, let Taurens hang out in Stormwind, and Humans use the bank in Orgrimmar.
Story-wise it’s hard to justify a war when world ending calamities happen every few years.
Gameplay-wise it is a bit of a failure. The system only works when the populations are relatively balanced. Blizzard overestimated the number of players willing to play ugly races and “be the bad guy”.
This is one “sacred cow” that should have been put to rest long ago.
Frankly, we can still have faction and open world PVP without the Alliance/Horde.
Just create 2 new neutral factions that players can join as mercenaries - e.g. they can use those Broker cartels from Shadowlands. To maintain balance, just adjust the payout - i.e. the less popular faction will pay more and the more popular faction will pay less. The invisible hand of the market will even things out.
if all of you “put the War back in Warcraft” people would collectively just turn War Mode on and go fight each other, you’d have all the faction conflict you could ever want.
but nobody wants to do that, ya’ll just want to do Forum RP.
I personally want the factions to end, if only because they serve no purpose anymore.
Faction-less WoW would feel VERY STRANGE, no doubt. But world PvP is all opt-in now, and you can blame skirmishes on sub-factions that don’t get along (like Genn Graymane and Sylvanas famously were on sight with each other). Horde and Alliance have been bros in the story since Legion, barring some skirmishes in BfA.
And, most importantly, player balance has gone way off since vanilla. RPers are overwhelmingly Alliance. Raiders and PvPers switch back and forth depending on the meta, but are always camped out in one faction or the other.
You can join a full server and be in the minority faction, and you will be outnumbered by a lot.
Just. Just merge the factions and let everyone play together.
The current factions are pointless. There is no reason for them to fight - especially when there are bigger fish to fry.
They also can’t be balanced.
As for replacement factions, we can use the Broker cartels. Most of them are devious scheming businesses who will not hesitate to use hired muscle to gain an advantage.
Balance can be achieved by adjusting reward payouts for winning and losing.
I like two factions what Blizzard did in BFA for example, but if the zones are all shared then there is no reason to keep them. Keep the appropriate captical cities separated of course.
Newly added neutral races should have no faction affiliation, at least.
There’s absolutely zero reason for Dracthyr or Earthen to have to “pick a side”. Both should be able to come and go in Horde or Alliance cities as they please because there’s no basis for hostility or even suspicion there.
Not to mention, one of the big draws (atleast initially) of playing a MMORPG was, large massive open world PvP battles, which the game engine has shown, it cannot handle. I pretty much agree that factions should be a thing of the past. They arn’t needed for any gameplay reasons, and even the lore of the game has been “opposite factions group together to beat the big bad” for a long time now.
