Time to change flying speeds

Dragon flying can be loads of fun, with the downside that it can make regular flying feel like running underwater. Dragon riding’s 830% speed makes the fastest 310% flying feel pretty slow, and 150% feel like a crawl. I think it’s time to make adjustments to accommodate our new expectations of flight speed.

  • Eliminate 150% and make 310% the baseline flying speed.
  • Introduce a 500% speed as the top tier speed for normal flying mounts.
  • Allow players with 500% flying to toggle “Gathering mode” which lowers speeds to 310% while herbing, mining, or doing tasks in spots where 500% speed is cumbersome.

Right now 150% flight speed feels like the 60% we used to have in BC because our expectations have changed due to ever increasing flight speeds. It’s time to adjust them again, as has been done in the past.

I’m ok with 310 flying personally… It allows a finesse in flight that you don’t get with dragonriding. Yesterday when I was stuck at home due to a Blizzard (no joke), I was farming… and the up/down action I can get on a regular mount makes me miss my druid flight form terribly. But I don’t need to go faster. I think there should be a distinct difference in the two platforms…

There still would be. Nothing would change in normal flying except top speed, which would still be far below dragon riding speed, and you’d have the ability to adjust it lower for gathering as I pointed out.

Nope. No. Nuh uh. Nada.

Sky swimming doesn’t need to be any faster. You guys who want to hover and afk and have precision steering can do it at snail pace. That is all.

I agree with this. Old flying for slow and precision, and dragonriding for both speed and more interactivity. They would both have their niche. Basically like GW2’s Griffon vs Skyscale.
