That method, and scripting your keyboard to a timer should be very easily detectable. Literally the server software should have no problem recognizing you have been pressing the same button at the same intervals, over and over again.
Shouldn’t take more then 30 minutes to find, detect, remove, and temp/perm ban these people.
That’s exactly what the servers did to afk BG botting multiple times over. It finds a repeative key pattern that a human wouldn’t be able to manually do and removed them. Pretty simple concept.
Even the most accurate person would be unable to jump once per minute, down to a nanosecond. A script from a 3rd party software however, would be able to.
You’re talking about the creation of a whole new system they have to integrate just to go after these evil people that may or may NOT be pushing their own keys to stay online.
And for what? They aren’t the cause of 5k-10k+ ques. It’s a whole lot of work for something that isn’t even proven and in the end, is just spilled milk.
What the heck are you taking about? These systems have already been in place for years and years. How do you think blizzard has been detecting bots and hacks since vanilla? Lol
The warden system scanned for processes attached to the wow client. They didn’t “count keypresses and time them.”
Why is it bad to use that(your) method? Because handicapped people and people with RSI’s will use certain softwares so they can also play. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to spam the keys enough to actually play. But 1 keypress = 1 action.
It’s the repeative key presses, for example only pressing jump to circumvent going afk exactly once per minute, devoid of other keystrokes that would be an issue.
Someone using 3rd party macros for assistance is going to be moving around and pressing other buttons on top of their script. In other words actively playing. They don’t show up in the same way if someone is checking a keylogs, and assistive macros for the disabled are totally acceptable and not against TOS
And the bot detection had nothing to do with any of that.
AHK for example. You can program it to do a lot. People with disabilities and rsi’s depend on it. And it is used for all sorts of windows functions. Such programs would fall under your umbrella.
AHK can be programmed to do repetitive keypresses, hence why people with rsi’s use them. You yourself suggested that the system:
Which is not true.
Then:
You don’t seem to understand what their bot detection really did.
And 30 minutes? Whew. You’re throwing an orphanage of babies out with that bathwater.
It seems reasonable to assume that if raidlogs can capture exact input from a 20 man Mythic raid, down to position, exact keystrokes, spell batching, etc, that blizzard’s client / API is providing the information.
What would their own client be unable to access this information or store it as well? I understand that Warden searches active processes for known botting software, but you assume they wouldn’t also use other sources of information if they need to?
Like I said, you are expecting them to develop a system that likely doesn’t exist as there was no reason to check for “repeated keypresses.” All for what is spilled milk and not the reason fro the ques.
How many innocent players are too many to be banned over this problem you have?
I don’t really care about waiting in the queue tbh, it’s allowing me to get real life stuff done while I wait. Watch tv, get chores done, go to the gym, and then come back when I notice I’m less 500 in queue.
However it would be nice to just disconnect players running scripts to avoid afk when the server is detecting queues over 1,000+ and remove their grace period. Wouldn’t be to difficult to program some code to check zone and recent combat state to determine if a player is abusing the afk system.
Scripting involves any 3rd party software to repeat a defined set of actions, started/run at the press of a button or on a loop timer interval predefined by the person. Even your keyboard/mouse is using 3rd party software to achieve this end result.
Gaming mice / keyboards are very useful for setting up macro’s that are impossible to setup from WoW interface. Something like press x ability, jump, press y, jump, press z, jump. This would allow you to keep holding forward and use instant casts while jumping, something very common to arenas.
Nothing about advanced macroing is illegal. Like you said it helps the disabled, and improves some players experience with the game. Issue is then when these softwares are running and you are not at your keyboard. Afk collecting herbs/ore for instance would be frowned upon.
Using the same 3rd party software to avoid afking to reserve a slot from other players who want to play is despicable though, and should be handled accordingly.
Eh, I doubt it. People just press their space bar once every like 30 minutes. I can literally go take a shower and only be on the character select screen. I can go cook dinner and still be online. Its not a problem, there are just too many people. Be patient. It will get better.
