Time Rifts - not a fan

Hey all,

Returning to retail player trying to wrap my head around the modern game. So far, it’s a struggle, not gonna lie.

I’ve done a few time rifts now as a way to get my character geared up, and I don’t understand why these are supposed to be fun. My experience so far has been excessive lag, inability to earn epic reward bag, and I just feel like I’m not even participating with how laggy these things are. I had to loot some seeds for a task, and it kept repeatedly failing, it’s just frustrating and seems poorly executed. It took me nearly 3 minutes to loot 4 seeds… that’s ridiculous.

I really want to like retail, I’ve played wow in some form since TBC, but time rifts are just not fun and it’s a bummer that one of the best ways to gear your character (and what seems like it would be crazy fun on paper) as a solo player is to subject yourself to a fail lag fest every hour.

Am I missing something?

Only the large number of other posts on the status of Time Rifts, really.

My major dislike is the lag and the fact that turning up late is basically pointless. Anytime I did that I got nothing, probably due to some form of delay.

Blizz should keep rifts in Diablo.

Time Rifts are just awful, but I wouldn’t judge retail as a whole just on them.

Boring recycled garbage. Get used to it because this type of content will be the norm in maintenance mode.

They only lag iv been having is the last boss and thats server lag

I just lol at some of the hate comments… Like what do you think this game is? They’ve been doing the same stuff for years and you just all the sudden think it’s going to change?

Go sniffenseeking, it’s much better.

As for the Time Rifts, the only thing I disliked is finding out about supposedly faction-locked rewards tied to RNG for the opposite faction.

I just got a White War Wolf on my Alliance character that is not on the Time Rift vendors.
Now I’m wondering if there’s more…

Edit: The Lag was so bad that the wolf randomly popped like 1 minute later, not exaggerating.

I was in the same boat. It was bad today. And the best part was when I turned in my weekly quest, I opened the reward and it was still lagging. So I thought maybe I didn’t click it and clicked it again. Apparently I had looted it but the game hadn’t caught up yet. So my second click applied my Destiny buff while I already had one, so I wasted a Destiny thanks to lag.

How to to do a Time Rift when the lag is too high (most times atm):
Arrive at the hour, talk to Soridormi, AFK for 8-10 minutes.
Get to mid, wait for instance to open up, furiously keep right clicking to get in.
Tag the boss, AFK until it’s dead.

I’ve now done 6 rifts on my main and 2-3 on 5 alts.
the only lag i experienced is the final boss, but still able to complete them all.

After doing my 1st rift, I used that token that guarantees your next rift gives a reward, and it is permanently active on my main

I have done a few more, and I got a reward every rift so far, the buff is still active and never cleared…

I thought it might be a weekly thing, but was still active when I logged in today.

seems like this event was done by a work from home remote worker using AI to do 3 jobs at once lol…

there’s not enough players doing something in one spot, people complain…

“world feels empty” they say… “ded game lul” they say

too many players doing something in one spot, people complain…

“too laggy” they say…“ded game lul blizz can’t network” they say…

big friggin sigh wow

I’ve been asking that for most of Dragonflight and the stuff they come up with.

I think that is rather the point. They have been doing this sort of stuff for years. And sometimes I have to wonder, after all these years, why they can’t seem to get the things working right.

I mean, the game worked well enough when we had over ten million players. With the numbers now, and the advancements in technology, things still repeatedly fall over.

Not the same person doing the complaining on all listed complaints maybe,… just a thought

Should add that as of today, you can’t complete the weekly while grouped up.

The lag has gotten a little bit better but is still pretty terrible at the final boss…
I actually like the idea of these time rifts minus the lag.

There is something called “balance”, which is what we all should strive for, in every aspect of life.

MoP should have taught you that. (Or at least that “Avengers” movie).

To avoid the excessive lag, I found if I do a rift at about the time most people are in bed then it’s not bad.

There’s still enough of us to do the whole thing & complete it but so far I can only do one a day that way.

I’m just going to say that Time Rifts, as they currently exist in the live servers, are a complete failure. The lag is simply immense. I can barely hit a single mob during the ‘kill as many mobs’ part of the rift, and that’s because I just spam my instant casts at every single mob that I see. Or rather, I TRY to spam my instant casts, because it takes in average two seconds for the game to actually cast the spell.

And when it’s time to get into the time rift itself? Well, I usually end up dying because it takes on average three to four seconds for the game to register what is going on around me. And that’s when I actually manage to get into the rift itself because I’m getting “instance is full” error messages.

Blizzard, please fix that.
