Did a time rift and got a quest from Soridormi to do something. I did that something and as a reward i got a thing where I could chose to get either a mount or a pet the next time rift I did. I chose mount and got a buff saying that “the next rift I do would award me with an unobtainable mount”. I did 1 more time rift to get the mount (don’t need anything from time rifts anymore). Did I get a mount? NO! Maybe the entire thing is that the “unobtainable mount” doesn’t exist in game and that is why it is unobtainable?
I want my mount…

Lol, in case you were serious: The item means you would receive a mount you haven’t obtained yet from the pool of available mounts for Time Rifts.
If you have acquired them all, there’s nothing left to drop - you have no mounts that are unobtained.

But if the mount I should have gotten is from the mounts you can get from the time rifts, then they are obtainable and not unobtainable?
Cannot read the link you gave, I am living on the wrong side of the world and where I am living wowhead has blocked all of us.
They are not unobtainable, only potentially unobtained. But if you’ve collected them all, there are none that are unobtained.
Unobtainable: Not able to be obtained.
Unobtained: Not obtained.
A unicorn is unobtainable, but I haven’t yet obtained an age of 40.
Basically imagine you’re holding a stick. The item said "if you don’t already have a stick (have obtained a stick) this item will grant you a stick. But you had a stick, so you didn’t get another stick!

I used mine for a pet since I had everything and thought at least I could sell the pet, but didn’t get a any reward either. I assumed it was working as intended but still a let-down, lol.
